... Chick fee lay is sniffing around for a location. Despite their seeming wokeness, we are awaiting their arrival.

I heard one was coming, and when it opened, I looked at their menu on line. No coleslaw. No mashed potatoes and gravy. No real cuts - just tenders. I was floored, but then I always really liked KFC original, so I guess I'll stick with them.

I was listening to this a couple of days ago , they have an announcement in their clearly stating that “no cigarette smoking” is allowed on the sales floor and is only permitted in the food area....ahhhh memories.

We had a KMart in Arlington. They had a food corner. I would beg my mom for a hotdog and a pretzel. Oh man that was the best.

I think that’s what lured people in. The smell of hotdogs and pretzels.

I can almost picture it ... displays of polyester shirts with big collars, Sansabelt slacks, hardware, toys, stinky perfume counter ... ah, the good old days.

This sound track would be interrupted over the PA system by the store manager announcing the "blue light" special in some part of the store. The blue light was like an old police light that rotated around powered by a car battery so no one tripped over the power cord. The music would also get interrupted by the manager calling some person to come to the front of the store for a price check, or a missing child. K-mart also had a counter for processing photos, film and a studio for kids pictures. Locally, only Penney's still has a photo studio now. Before everyone went digital, film processing was a big deal. I also remember the little Photomart buildings in the parking lots of strip malls. Those are long gone now too.

Our local mall was the largest one within 50 miles just a few years ago. Always was crowded, especially at Christmas.

Now it’s practically empty and being torn down section by section as stores close. Even the food court is gone.

All the big retailers, ‘anchor stores’ are gone, Sears Pennys, Dillards, McRaes, Zales, Radio Shack, Victoria’s Secret, et al.

All that’s left are small locals and a Planet Fitness.

I was in there last month and was shocked to see it blocked off where there used to be lots of stores......................

I cannot stand any of those. At least the first one is upbeat, though annoying and way overplayed, the other three are dark and depressing.

The “Christmas Shoes” one is trying to be meaningful but is really downbeat. The singer is witnessing a poor kid who wants to buy his mother nice shoes on Christmas Eve before she dies of cancer. It is too heavy handed and manipulatively sentimental.

I don’t know why stores play these songs because they are a downer and not what puts me in a Christmas shopping mood. I just want to get out of the store to escape.

I would add Bruce Springsteen’s cringey “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” to that list. I go through great lengths every holiday season to avoid hearing it and having my ears bleed. So far so good this year.

We seem to have an appreciation for what KFC offers.

I routinely drive by and order just a large cole slaw.

deeeelicous.

Kmart has their own Christmas carol. “Christmas at Kmart”. It’s a classic.
