The goal of the Essence Affinity Community is to provide a living experience focused on supporting students and allies who self-identify within the Black diaspora. Offered based on direct requests/feedback and in partnership with students of color, Essence allows students to feel comfortable to be their authentic selves. Essence is about developing the essence of who you are and not being defined only by the construct of race.

And what is with the white guy in the background, looks like a transie in a sorority picture.
Do they get their own drinking fountains, too?
L
Does the white guy self-identify as black?
Maybe he has a Black parent. I’ve known a couple of mixed kids who came out like that.
Diaspora? Give me a break!
Is the white guy in the picture gonna get an operation that will turn him black since he knows deep in his heart he is a black man trapped in a white body?
lol.
What? That blond. guy in the background could have been ABBA's progeny.
In the old days that was called “high yellow”.
There were rumors that Warren G. Harding was “high yellow”.
I’ve known two little girls with Black fathers and blonde, White mothers who look almost ‘albino’. Blue eyes, very white skin, pale yellow hair. They just come out that way sometimes.
In the Myrtle Beach, SC area they have their own banks, businesses, restaurants, etc. They blacks work within the general area but segregate themselves after hours to black “communities”. There was literally a bank for whites and bank across the street, same bank, for blacks.
When I was in college there was black “albino” on campus, She had frizzy hair, but I was always nice to her, she really wanted to learn the western classics, and not be judged on her condition, but her knowledge.
These girls were not albinos, though I’ve seen Black ones.
Most Blacks in the US are not purely African Black. They’re mixed up, over hundreds of years, with all sorts of European and indigenous New World blood. A Black person may look ‘Black’ to you, but had a white parent. If they then marry a blonde White person, there are all sorts of ways the genes can fall.
It’s not common for them to come out like my little friends, but it happens.
What? You are loony, IMO.
Harding was a handsome man...but by his pictures, if he was Black at all, it must have been very far back.
I have no idea what you mean.
Are you doubting that albinism exists in Black people?
Details on Harding in this NYT article—explains the rumors:
Modern DNA tests showed that the rumors were not correct—but they were widely believed at the time.
Uh? No, I've already stated that "albinolism" happens in all races.
Are you the blond guy from Madison, Wi,? Picture from above?
Thanks. I had never heard about this.
