The Devils risked little; they had a hard time attracting fans in the NJ Meadowlands (after their first Stanley Cup win, the “parade” was driving around their arena), and when they moved to Newark NJ it was even worse (more of a basketball town than hockey). When the Nets left the arena, on the other hand, NEwark begged them to come - but the Russian who owned them knew he wouldn’t make money there (took them to Brooklyn instead).
I doubt 20 fans saw the Devils’ latest pandering stunt.
