The New York City Police Department is ramping up security for the New Year's Eve ball drop in Times Square over fears Pro-Palestine protestors are set to disrupt it.
It is deploying thousands of officers to the area and could use a combination of robots, drones and detection dogs to prevent any interruption to the event, which annually attracts an estimated one million people.
Mayor Eric Adams said he is 'sure' Pro-Palestine protestors will try to cause disruption at the famous New Year's Eve ball drop.
'We’re sure there’s gonna be some type of attempt this year,' he said at a news conference on Tuesday. 'Everyone looks for events like this if they want to do bad things, and the police department is on top of it.'
It comes after the protestors, who are calling for a ceasefire as 21,000 Palestinians have been killed in the fight between Israel and Hamas, disrupted the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The NYPD is placing thousands of police officers in Times Square on New Year's Eve, both in uniform and plain clothes, to prevent any interruptions.
They will be using different strategies and technologies to monitor any potential disruptions.
'The variety of tools, whether robots, drones, bomb-sniffing dogs — all of those things are in play,' former deputy commissioner Richard Esposito told CBS New York.
'They’re going to be on alert for something different than what we’ve had in the past, but they are mostly concerned [about] the people who go out [to] enjoy their night.
'And they want to keep the protests and the freedom of speech from interfering with other people’s freedom and enjoying themselves.'
The Times Square Alliance has teamed up with the NYPD, private security firms and federal authorities to keep the area safe.

This is not Gaza. It’s time to dust some of these terrorist bass turds. Scare the rest of them off like a bunch of scared jackrabbits.
Why haven’t these savages been rounded up and shipped back to where they came from?
If they are successful in disrupting it it could backfire on the palipeople. Wouldn’t be a good PR move IMHO. But what do I know...it’s NYC after all.
Not sure how they will blame it on Trump, but they probably will.
That’s what I’d like to know!
Yes, water cannons are good, just like potato guns and rubber bullets!
Well said.
Powers that be want a disruptive New Year’s Eve. Fear can paralyze a nation. That’s the plan.
Thousands of drunk New Yorkers on New Year’s Eve is NOT the same as people viewing the Christmas Trees.
This might be fun to watch. Would be a shame if the cops couldn’t muster a fast response team.
Water cannons. I like water cannons.
Rachael Corie - D9 bulldozers .......
I think there’s something to be said for the good old-fashioned Hickory Shampoo. Generously applied to the mask and kaffayeh region of the protestor. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Arrest the Jihadis and send them to Gitmo.
The NYPD has to be scared to death knowing they might have to make the Muzzie scum mad by yelling at them.
Great suggestion!
I could never understand the enthusiasm for standing shoulder to shoulder for hours to watch the damn ball drop.
Now, only real fools would risk life and limb to do it.
It has already been reported that the 10/7 attack was revenge for the Assassination of Qasem Soleimani.
water cannons? Oh No...lets go full “RoboCop”! the tech is already here and with some goading of industry(along with a hefty gain of functions Quik bonus), the timetables could be moved up to the elections. just imagine an election with a nation of Robocops, programmed by the current administration, to make Sure the elections are “fair” and then enforce the side of who ever programs them. the deeper question is....who’s in YOUR WALLET?
Good time for a covid bomb
