The New York City Police Department is ramping up security for the New Year's Eve ball drop in Times Square over fears Pro-Palestine protestors are set to disrupt it.
It is deploying thousands of officers to the area and could use a combination of robots, drones and detection dogs to prevent any interruption to the event, which annually attracts an estimated one million people.
Mayor Eric Adams said he is 'sure' Pro-Palestine protestors will try to cause disruption at the famous New Year's Eve ball drop.
'We’re sure there’s gonna be some type of attempt this year,' he said at a news conference on Tuesday. 'Everyone looks for events like this if they want to do bad things, and the police department is on top of it.'
It comes after the protestors, who are calling for a ceasefire as 21,000 Palestinians have been killed in the fight between Israel and Hamas, disrupted the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The NYPD is placing thousands of police officers in Times Square on New Year's Eve, both in uniform and plain clothes, to prevent any interruptions.
They will be using different strategies and technologies to monitor any potential disruptions.
'The variety of tools, whether robots, drones, bomb-sniffing dogs — all of those things are in play,' former deputy commissioner Richard Esposito told CBS New York.
'They’re going to be on alert for something different than what we’ve had in the past, but they are mostly concerned [about] the people who go out [to] enjoy their night.
'And they want to keep the protests and the freedom of speech from interfering with other people’s freedom and enjoying themselves.'
The Times Square Alliance has teamed up with the NYPD, private security firms and federal authorities to keep the area safe.

As I watched Midnight Mass from St Pat’s I really feared these terrorist wannabes were going to try and disrupt the Mass, but they realized even the Bidens would abandon them.
I could never understand the enthusiasm for standing shoulder to shoulder for hours to watch the damn ball drop.
Watching it on television is good enough for me!
You couldn’t pay me to go down to Times Square this year.
Thousands of nauseating New York Liberals and Pro Palestinian protestors fighting each other. Win/win and who cares. Let em go at it.....popcorn time.
Same here.
I agree....no way.
I’ll watch it on television Monday morning. Or afternoon.
I wonder how many wetbacks will be there..
Which is just an excuse
Not many.
Why haven’t they had the living piss beat out of them?
