House Bill 621, sponsored by Republican Florida state Rep. Kevin Steele, was put forward in response to Jacksonville resident Patti Peeples, who made national headlines earlier this year when several squatters moved into her Jacksonville property and caused nearly $40,000 in damages.
Peeples first discovered that two female squatters broke into a rental property she owned after she sent a handyman to make repairs in anticipation of a home inspection after she showed an interested buyer the home 48 hours before.

This is actually a nationwide issue.
Hopefully this bill will pass and reverse this trend.
It’s time for the empty skulls on Capitol Hill to close this squawter “loophole” in all 50 states. (57 for the Obamanistas) We can worry about “gender neutral” toy stores later.
Place “No Trespassing” signs around the property. Take pictures. The idea is that the wannabe squatters will trespass and therefore break the law.
Squatting should NEVER give anyone any legal right to another’s property.

Make it legal to compost squatters.
I saw my dad remove two squatters from his mothers rental 65 years ago. One came out through a second story window. The other kicked down the front steps and when he arrived at the bottom he had a 45 stuck in his ear with the warning to never return. Never forgot that or the two days it took to repair the damage they did.
Given how we coddle criminals these days my dad probably would be in a super max!
I would not involve the cops for any reason. Either put them out at gunpoint or wait til they go to the grocery and take possession and throw their chit out on the lawn and change the locks.
Not a Federal issue. Let every state decide for itself, that’s the bedrock principle of federalism. Getting the Federal Government involved will only make things worse. Think I’m wrong? Think about student loans, and what happened after they were taken over by the Federal Government.
This squatting issue arose with Obozo.
Police now days fear to act on almost everything.
In earlier days the squatters would have been dragged out
and charged with burglary.
Now the Law is too scared to act and the higher ups in the Department don’t want to make waves. They are fine with
leaving lawlessness to the courts.
This was an intentional thought destabilization attack on the country.
Create bills that allow a black mark on a person’s credit record/FICO score for 8 years Also suspend all government programs for the person (other than food stamps) - for 18 months - and the problem will be solved.
What is the basis for any argument that this is NOT a law enforcement problem?
Someone breaks into your house and refuses you entry to property that you have registered title to?
It should not take more than one phone call and five minutes after the cops arrive to beat the snot out of them, drag them out, and throw them in jail.
It’s a serious question. Why is this not what happens? Seems completely straightforward.

If the owner pays any taxes associated with the property, how in Hades do squatters have a legal leg to stand on?!
Go into the house you own, start throwing their crap out, when they attack, defend yourself against the thieves with normal force you would use stains someone in your house. If anyone tries to prosecute you, the fraudulent documents will prove they are criminals and never tenants.

They don’t....however in this case when the police showed up they produced fraudulent documentation stating they had a right to live there.
The police wouldn’t make a decision on the paperwork which meant the rightfully owners had to go through civil court.
All that takes time so the squatters lived free until then.
Knowing they would eventually get kicked out they trashed the place out of spite......the 2nd home in a row they got kicked out of BTW.

All they have to do to get around the law now is bring their crap into the house and use the address as their mailing address.
They also may start renting then quit paying rent later. Renters have far too many protections and the abusers know how to work the law.
