What’s the NCAA’s deal with Florida State?
The NCAA just blasted the Seminoles program with some hefty penalties related to NIL and recruiting, according to a Thursday evening press release from the association.
Becoming one of the first punishments in college football’s new era, an FSU assistant coach has been suspended for three games and also hit with a show cause penalty for two years. The Associated Press is reporting that the assistant coach is offensive coordinator Alex Atkins.
This whole situation originates from a meeting that was held between a Florida State-associated booster and transfer player. The booster apparently offered the athlete an NIL opportunity worth a total of $15,000/month if he decided to become a Seminole, according to the NCAA’s release. In the association’s rules, it’s considered an inducement to play.
The NCAA had an issue with Atkins setting up the meeting between the player and booster, who was an NIL collective CEO at the time, with the coach not attending, according to the athletes’ parents, per OutKick.
Following the school agreeing with the claims of the NCAA investigation and Atkins admitting that he lied to investigators at one point, the Seminoles have been placed on probation for two years.
Also, for a total of three years, Florida State University is not allowed to associate with the booster, while also being forced to keep away from the collective for one year. And on top of all that, FSU will be losing five scholarships over two years.
But that’s not all!
The Noles are also getting seven official visits taken from them, and in a punishment that’s already been served, Atkins was banned from recruiting off the campus of Florida State during Fall 2023.
And here’s the kicker … they’re getting slammed with all of this punishment for what literally EVERYBODY else does.
Because they had the unmitigated gall to legally point out the hypocrisy of the playoff system, leapfrogging a team with a loss over an undefeated team. Can’t let the ******* become uppity.
Well, the NCAA did change it for next year....
How is fsu getting screwed when they themselves admit they broke the rules and they agreed to the punishments handed down?
And then they quit and gave up 63 and kept complaining they wanted a ribbon. But nobody cared that Texas lost to Oklahoma and got voted in to the playoff. It’s the team that beat the two time champs and killed their 29 win streak before laying 63 on the super Seminoles everyone is mad at.
It’s all about who you hate. That’s what college football is. Hate, vitriol, and stupidity.
Michigan is the champs. Florida State is a bunch of whiny sucks. Biggest bowl loss ever.
Biggest buttkicking a top 5 team has EVER taken.
The Buckeyes once got a bowl ban over a few tattoos. I’m not shedding a tear for poor ole FSU.
“The Buckeyes once got a bowl ban over a few tattoos. I’m not shedding a tear for poor ole FSU.”
Shhhhh...They are meeting at Davos. Florida State must be destroyed....
Who didn't see that coming? I thought that was the purpose of the NIL?
In other news, Shedeur Sanders has NIL deals valued at $5.1 million......
One thing that's gonna happen for sure is the "regular" bowl games are going to shrivel up and die unless someone finds a solution to that. Come to think of it, the "regular" bowl games are gonna be in trouble anyway with what, 11 games being played in a 12-team playoff.
And oh yeah, the one school that most openly and notoriously attempted to "buy" a football team, to the point of arranging a "new" faculty position with a... generous salary at a local seminary for a player's dad, (with money rumored to be from outside the US) hasn't gotten in any trouble, but to be fair about it that might be because the head coach got fired after the team underperformed on the field over the last two seasons...
Don’t feel sorry for any of them. They are all just too happy to go along with the absolutely ridiculous rules until they get burned themselves, then they protest.
Who didn’t see that coming?
The NCAA.................or maybe they did!................
Wide right?
Oh NCAA, can you not see the handwriting on the wall? There will now be 4 super conferences. So the playoff math is easy. So they don’t need you. And if you keep laying down stupid punishments they’re gonna leave. Really, end the illusion of amateurism.
College football will die a slow death by becoming a pay for play circus.
With Democrats, every issue is an eternal blood feud.
“By any means necessary.” is their creed..................
Its true that fsu had a bunch of key players sitting out that bowl game. That’s been a problem for years though. Remember when Oklahoma played Florida after the 2020 season and all of Florida’s key players except Kyle Trask sat out the game? We knew what the outcome was going to be weeks before kickoff.
The bottom line is that bowl games outside the playoffs are irrelevant.
And got beat by the 3rd place SEC team 63-3.
