I had not thought about Option #3! Good one. There are probably more options, too.

I certainly am not so committed to the Big Bang Theory as to discount all challenges to it, but I do think it's important that weaknesses in the alternative model being promoted by Eric Lerner be likewise accounted for.

(And again, Eric Lerner, much like Hannes Alfvén, believes that the universe has always existed, and is infinitely old; a universe without a beginning is something I don't believe in whatsoever.)

I don’t believe in an always-existed universe either. Entropy would have destroyed all order by now.

The great Johnny Carson as Carl Sagan :

So,Dr.Sagan, what came after the Big Bang?

That would be the Big Cigarette.

A “beginning” always begs the question of “what was there before that”? Who or what started things?

I read the whole thing and have no clue what his new theory is.

Ban somebody state it in a paragraph or too in reasonably simple English?

Maxwell’s theory of electromagnetism was derived from 4 field equations, later converted to vector equations by self-taught Oliver Heaviside, because he hated field equations.

The other 196 of JCM’s equations were discarded by Heaviside because they were “impossible”.

Original copies of JCM’s work are either very rare or lost.

The trouble with all of these theories is that we see only a tiny part of the entire Universe because we cannot see dark matter.

If you pour a dark matter ‘beer’ into a mug, which represents the entire universe, then the foam that rises to the top is the baryonic matter which we can see.

Or a blind man finds an elephant’s tail and, from that, describes the entire animal.

“Original copies of JCM’s work are either very rare or lost.”

They were lost in the Heaviside Layer............

Eric J Lerner looks like he has never seen daylight, yet he describes his theory of the universe.

There is no possible version of the universe story that is even relevant to the Creation issue.

Creating a universe does not need to fit into some human preferences.

The Whole Big-Bang story speaks of Creation. It doesn’t support the idea that the Biblical Narrative as calculated by the Scholars of the First Century is correct, but then again, in the 21 Century, we have concepts like “virtual reality” that our 20th Century scientists and philosophers didn’t.

Funny how the Nobel Prize for Physics was granted to a group of folks that proved that the Material Reality of the supposed Clockwork Universe doesn’t exist. Every version of “Material Reality” has been excluded, disproved as a hypothesis that explains our existence. And thus, Creation could have happened only seconds ago, like the booting of a computer game.
