I watched “My Three Sons.” Then after that, I watched “Tool Time.” And that was that.
I’m watching a lot of films from the 40s and 50s I haven’t seen before.
I am not at all certain that TV ever had a “”Golden Age.” In 1961 FCC Chairman Newton Minow declared TV to be “a vast wasteland.” I have seen nothing to convince me he was wrong.

remember, he wanted to do a prequel to the Sopranos, but it went nowhere. Mainly because they just HAD to put in blacks, and not only that, I am sure they put them on equal footing as the Italians in the story, even though there was never a black mafia that could get out of their own way in the entirety of human history. (I never saw The Many Saints of Newark) And I bet every period piece nowadays set in pre-1990s had to show how racist the society was, as well. It gets to the point where it's not worth doing anything with the restrictions/quotas.
Nope. There's no racial diversity in a show about Italian-American mobsters.
After the Summer of Mostly Peaceful Protests, Hollywood adopted very rigid rules about racial representation. It's very difficult to get a TV show or movie green-lit without a diverse cast.
I recently watched the full series of the Sopranos for the first time in a couple of decades.
For those who have not seen it I am not going to give away any spoilers.
That said—imho the ending was stunning and brilliant—nothing like it before or since—went way over the head of most of the audience—on multiple levels.
The Sopranos is multi-layered and stunningly complex once you get into the details of it.
There are double meanings to just about everything—hilarious inside jokes—really rewards close concentration.
It was a true work of art.
I would also add that to understand it you need to have a complete understanding of the Godfather movies—many of the scenes are homages to those movies.

They should have brought good recurring extended characters and they should never ever have let Jennifer Esposito go.
The Sopranos was a dark comedy.
When the golden age of TV started and stopped is all a matter of opinion.
When love scenes changed from kissing and suggestions of having sex to outright raunchy full nude sex scenes, that would be the end.
When language went from light weight cuss words like crap, turds, etc to F word being used in every other sentence, that’s when the golden age ended.
When TV started pushing leftist political agendas, that’s when the golden age ended.
When homos came out of the closet, that’s when the golden age ended.
When TV commercials became filled with political agendas and now wokeness, that’s when the golden age ended.
When cable TV (HBO & Showtime) went from first run movies right after the theater got them, but before they started producing their own trash, that’s when the golden age ended.
When the mainstream news channels went from occasional little white lies to outright full blown made up stories and other complete lies, that’s when the golden age ended.
I would say the beginning of the end would be the mid to late 90’s. Today the only TV worth watching is what is carefully selected from a streaming service that has no ads that one pays for.
The Golden Age of TV ran from 1955 to 1984. So did Captain Kangaroo. Coincidence? I think NOT!

Probably the last actual TV show I watched was “The Big Bang Theory”
The other great show no one has mentioned was “Breaking Bad”.
At least David Chase realizes it is dead. No young people subscribe to cable TV. They watch everything streaming.
Cable News is also dead. They just do not know it yet. Just like the rest of the MSM that believe they are still relevant.
It ended with media consolidation. You basically have two or three mega-corporations generating all the content, just more channels.
You are correct about the ma y saints of Newark. There wS an incomprehensible black story line within the soprano story line.

There are some television series that are true masterworks of art.
The Sopranos is one—others include Breaking Bad, The Wire, The Shield.
They operate at the level of entertainment while having the complexity of classic literature for those who have the knowledge to appreciate all the meaning that is there.
That said—the vast majority of TV is total garbage.
