I’m completely confused.
I’ve often heard the Golden Age of Television was the 50s and early 60s, featuring sitcoms such as I Love Lucy ,Father Knows Best ,The Donna Reed Show , and serious dramatic shows such as Playhouse 90 and the Kraft television theater.
Was there a second golden age when cable channels such as HBO started coming out with original programming?
The “Rural Purge” was the beginning of the end.
That WAS the Golden Age. Perhaps he meant to say the silver age or the bronze age.
From a business/industry standpoint, the golden age of television ended when cable TV was introduced and the Big Three networks no longer monopolized the broadcasting world.
That was much more a reference to the dramatic shows like Playhouse 90 and the Kraft Television Theater than to the sitcoms.
Cable shows like the Sopranos, the Wire, Breaking Bad,Game of Thrones, and the Crown launched a second golden age. but that’s ending now.
