This video is one of many in a series created from an interview conducted by Edward C. Ezell with Eugene Stoner in 1988 at ARES Inc. in Port Clinton, Ohio. All the footage is courtesy of the Smithsonian Institution Archives. All I have done is cut some of the waiting time between tapes out and tried to fix the audio. Otherwise, what you are seeing is entirely unadulterated. Feel free to ask any questions about the various topics of the video in the comments. I will do my best to answer them.
the entire series

good stuff...
I agree with him on all...
(SGT, USMC) I’ll take the M-14 over the Mickey Mouse .223 any day.
Anyone who has ever “humped” an M16 for an extended period knows what is wrong with it.

I never humped no rifle but I’m curious of what you take is?
I’m new to the platform
Thanks
Ping
Magazines that stick out poke you in the back.
😁
Dang.
I had a Springfield M1A with bedded match grade barrel 15checkmate mags, thousands of Lake City match thousands of brass primers hornady bullets and powder, spare barrels etc, with a folding McMillan woodland camo.
One divorce later sans rifle. It was my recreation for always attempting consistent MOA groups, range time may have contributed to failed marriage. (range was stump at 100 yds for paper and a 16” gong painted UN helmet blue at 250) located on a mountainside in SE Alaska.
Sigh….
An old friend of mine watched a number of his troopers die when the early M-16s failed to properly chamber rounds during a firefight. The weapon was modified to include the manual chamber assist plunger now standard.
more people prolly died hitting that assist and REALLY jamming the round, than were ever saved by it...
i’d like to see a study
Working as a United States Air Force Security Specialist (in the 1970's we were still using Vietnam era M-16's), I humped one almost every day for 4 1/2 years and never had that particular problem (maybe because I'm smaller framed than the average guy; I dunno). My big gripe with them was their propensity to get jammed. I saw it tons of time on the firing range so I can imagine it could be worse in an actual firefight. Used to drive the Range Masters nuts.
Dang Amigo....
Watched it and Now We know what Happened!.
Absolutely 💯.
Thanks
So the Ex must be a pretty good shot by now ...Eh?
.
A match M1A is almost 2 grand now, Dang
30 rounder mags Really Hurt!
I think the platform has matured since the 60s, although I understand they don’t like to run when dirty or too lightly lubricated.
