Wikipedia says President Richard Nixon issued his "Statement on Chemical and Biological Defense Policies and Programs" on November 25, 1969, in a speech from Fort Detrick. The statement officially ended all U.S. offensive biological weapons programs. Nixon noted that biological weapons were unreliable and stated:

“The United States shall renounce the use of lethal biological agents and weapons, and all other methods of biological warfare. The United States will confine its biological research to defensive measures such as immunization and safety measures.”

“Gain of function” sounds to me like the current politically correct term for biological weapons research.

By the way, other than rhetorical statements are there differences between offensive and defensive programs? Isn’t it just a matter of which Petri dish you pick up from the table?

Fauci knew from the start, and this was all just a big CYA exercise for him and his goons. When Obama outlawed GoF research in the US, they shipped it all to China to continue it for whatever reason.

Bingo. That is exactly what is going on.

Ultimately, this address by Rand Paul is just more limited-hangout gibber-jabber. The U.S. defense establishment was the prime mover with respect to the development of SARS-COV-2. Paul presumably knows this, but this two-faced "libertarian champion" will never go quite so far as to go there.

And Paul can spare me his "Never again" bullsh*t coda. Talk is cheap, as is legislative posturing. Maybe, having zeroed in on the perpetrators, located in this country, of the COVID pandemic, which caused so much harm to so many people, we should be talking about executing people like Tony Fauci and Ralph Baric, rather than just calling them names.

For all his posturing, Rand Paul is an effing disgrace. A fake and a sell-out. Controlled opposition of the Deep State, and tightly controlled at that.

I don’t believe Trump could have even been on the escalator when this work started. Paul should know that. He is being too kind, if he is believing what he has been told or shown.

And I think of Rand Paul as the only American in the US Senate…

I am surprised this thread didn’t get more interest. I think it is Covid fatigue. People are starting to be getting tired of hearing and arguing about it. And it is also a blow to those who want to blame everything on foreigners when it looks like Fauci and company had a lot more to do with it from the start.
