Yesterday, we noted a hawkish Joe Scarborough calling for an aggressive response against Iran for the drone attack that killed three US soldiers and killed dozens of others in Jordan.
Jen Palmieri, Obama's former Communications Director and another Morning Joe regular gave away the game, putting things in bald political terms.
Scarborough asked, "What's the administration's problem with going in and taking out some of their oil infrastructure?"
Responded Palmieri: "Higher gas prices."
Scarborough: "I don't care. Dead Americans."
Palmieri: "Anytime you're doing anything that's going to mess with oil markets, higher gas prices are -- can be an existential threat to a presidency."

Ping to Liberal Media Criticism list.
National Security? Pffht.
Everything must pass the political test.
Biden will never settle on anything substantive as all options have a downside to his constituents and supporters.
The Muslim Obama loves Iran, so no.
didn’t have to. already shot up 50 cents overnight here.
If they really want to hurt the Iranians they should put a gas embargo in place and bomb their refineries. They can still export their oil, they just don’t have any gas for their economy.
“”What’s the administration’s problem with going in and taking out some of their oil infrastructure?””
Obama claims their exports of oil to us are extremely important. Gotta giggle at that one. According to the EIA the top 5 countries that import petroleum to the US measured in their last full year, 2022, are:
Canada - 60%
Mexico - 10%
Saudi Arabia - 7%
Iraq - 4%
Colombia - 4%
Totals to 85% of our oil imports

Tht means that Iran shares 15% of all the other countries that send us petroleum and less than 4%. I somehow don’t think some other little country would be very happy to send a little to us to make a little hard earned cash.
As usual, either Obama is lying trying to use fear as a weapon agaisnt the American people or he’s a damed fool (or both).

Sink Kharg Island.
Why don’t we just make Iran State 51?
Blue haired people are putting a price tag on American service people
Is 1$ more a gallon worth 3 dead ? 300 dead ? 3000?
How much per gallon will the United States allow before attacking the oil fields ?
Liberals and the liberal media are at fault.
Something needs to give
Xi/China would not be happy IF the US attacked Kharg Island and stopped the flow of Iranian oil.
Joe would get sent to bed with NO pudding.
That is a really great idea. Embargo them on gasoline and diesel. Blow up their own refineries. Their internal economy would collapse(worse than it already is and potentially a full blown revolt/revolution). Allow them to continue to export crude to keep the Chinese happy.
That’s got to be the longest list on FR. ;)
If we’re going to retaliate take out their nuke capability
Sounds like a democrat accidentally told the truth. That’s weird - - doesn’t happen often.
Strictly speaking, it’d make more sense to take out refined products production, storage, and import terminals. No fuel and...
Correct, and those non-Canadian imports are not that much of our domestic usage. The imports do help our refineries with their blends, mostly, and also contribute to our exports of blends and refined products.
ALL petroleum products considered, the US is a net exporter.
It’s not new. I’ve been saying it for months, and I don’t even recall where I heard it 1st. :-)
The bigger risk is to Euro economies in particular, if Iran & Russia (the players behind the scenes) succeed in keeping the Red Sea closed off. Japan, Korea, etc., are at some risk too, even China. But, the Euro’s are the big deal - if major Euro economies collapse or experience severe sustained inflation, the US economy likely won’t “collapse” but, we get dinged pretty good.
Like it or not, the world’s economy is highly interconnected.
