Woman was wounded after falling in trash bin, which was then emptied into sanitation truck, and compacted up to four times.
A New Hampshire woman was critically wounded after she fell into a large trash bin and then was tossed into a garbage compacting truck.
A top emergency response official in the city of Manchester said crews were greeted with a remarkably unusual scene after the woman in question fell into an apartment complex’s garbage bin while taking out some trash. She stayed in the bin until a sanitation truck arrived to empty the contents of the bin.

I agree with you. I don’t think you can, when standing on the ground, FALL into one.
If she wasn’t sleeping in it, she must have been digging around in it and fell into it.
She’s cool under pressure.

How does one stay in there long enough to wait around for trash pickup?
When she was pulled out, she asked one of the firemen to also grab for her the bag she was using to collect with.
The truck was almost empty then. The packer blades do not go all the way to the back, they only go about 1/2 the way back. They are at a slant angle and designed to push it around in a loop inside the body to make it tumble into it’s self and fill larger voids with smaller stuff long before it starts actually packing it hard and solid.
That is why the back end of the packer body and rear door is round. The blade pushes the garbage against the rear and forces it up the door so it makes a circle and tumbles back into it’s self. Something large like a human would just get tumbled around in the back a bit until the space starts to actually get full and actually pack hard.

I used to do this. There are a lot of homeless folks who sleep in dumpsters. especially in the winter, and especially in the cardboard recycle dumpsters. I have almost packed a lot of them. Once had a prisoner jump in one of the dumpsters at the prison on my route trying to escape. After that I would sit there and pack the hell out my load until juices ran out the back so that all the prisoners in the day yard would wise up to trying that anymore.
