The fighting will end when the Ukraine capitulates and agrees to armistace, just like all other wars.
That will involve Russia geting de-facto and de-jure control of roughtly what they have control of at the time. Which is about 20% of Ukraine.
The war will end, the Russians will not go "home", especially to those who consider places they have captured not their home.
