LIMA — Police arrested an 18-year-old Lima man in connection with the death of a 14-year-old girl earlier this week.
According to a press release from the Lima Police Department, officers arrested Malik Dennis, 18, on Thursday on a charge of suspicion of murder. He’s charged with killing Lauralye Sterling, 14, at her home.
At 2:24 a.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to a residence at 778 Greenlawn Ave. regarding a possible homicide. They found Sterling inside the residence, dead from a gunshot wound.
According to her obituary with Harter and Schier Funeral Home in Delphos, Sterling was a freshman at Lima Senior High School who enjoyed drawing and social media. Her funeral services are scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with visitation four hours prior.

That’s what I suspect happened too - nothing was said in the article but it looks like she was definitely targeted.
Most likely what you said, she rebuffed his advances.
I guess MORE information will be forthcoming but this has the appearance of a male person deciding “If I can’t have her NOBODY is going to have her”.
If that’s true, then the parents are responsible! I say that because if this were my daughter that mangy punk would have never got anywhere near my daughter.
A good point....what parent would allow a 14 year old girl to invite *any* adult male over at 2AM? Poor girl...she probably believed all that DEI cr@p she was being taught at school.
