John Lewis is facing calls for a boycott after it gave advice in a staff magazine on the use of breast binders for trans children.
The partnership, which also owns Waitrose, published the first issue of 'Identity' – a 32-page internal magazine sent to all 70,000 of its employees – to coincide with 'the beginning of LGBTQ+ history month'.
It has been accused of 'contemptuous dismissal of staff', after launching the in-house magazine offering tips from a controversial transgender charity.
The partnership Articles also signposted parents to controversial charities including Mermaids UK and Stonewall and gave advice to parents on 'chest binders'.
The article 'Raising trans and non-binary children' made heavy reference to Mermaids, which is currently subject to investigation by the Charity Commission.
Experiences of anonymised staff members were interwoven with advice to parents.
It focuses on the experiences of a mother, who said that it was not unexpected that her child wanted to transition to be a boy as 'he hadn't worn anything girly since he was eight', The Telegraph reports.
It read: 'The Mermaids parents forum offers a safe and supportive space for parents to ask questions and learn from other parents of trans children.
'Mermaids offers a number of YouTube videos and tips for both parents and trans children on their website.
'Social media has also helped spread the word, with influencers sharing their own personal experiences with transitioning.
'Some also share tips on how to safely use clothing and equipment to achieve a person's desired gender identity, for example, chest binders.'
Other items included in the magazine were wordsearches for LGBTQ+ terms and a calendar recognising the likes of 'pansexual and panromantic visibility day'.
The magazine's publication has been criticised as being 'packed with hyperbole, scaremongering and ideologically driven content' by women's rights groups.

I don’t fault John Lewis for the actions of the people running the business he left behind any more than I fault Walt Disney for the actions of the people running the business he left behind.

I have a beautiful 16 year old granddaughter, to whom I gave a chest binder, so she won’t get mastectomies. When I asked her in 9th grade, to use their generation’s jargon, how many people in your school are “transitioning”, her answer was, “oh, all of them”. She was groped by her mother’s baby daddy, who I wanted to kill, but it would be worse. Her mother doesn’t care for her or give her any attention at all. The worst thing about abuse is, when it makes the child act out sexually, corrupting the child in imitation of the perpetrator’s behavior. When she was 5, she repeated the behavior in public, she went up to a man at an American, Chick-Fil-A store, grabbed his penis. She personally groped me 5 times, her brother groped me 15 times.
If that’s weird to you, just be thankful if it never happened in your family. And shut up.
I’m the only adult she trusts, having never abused her. Once when I was baby-sitting the girl and boy a year younger, they didn’t want to go to bed, so they started jumping up & down on the beds like trampolines, screaming. This is why their double team, they constantly steal, they only have one another to take care of themselves.
I am a Conservative Catholic. The girl got me to take her to an evening event, without telling me what it was, in the radical Rocklin/Sacramento School District. It was a drag queen show. It happens that a woman has written a book about what has happened. As kids have been constantly exposed to pornography since average age 9, the boys get into increasingly violent pornography, and want the girls to act it out. The girls hate it so completely, they want to stop being girls.
My lovely little granddaughter, the apple of my eye, suddenly blossomed, but chest binders were the thing at her school, where kids are trying to be the opposite of what they are, so I got her a chest binder. She squealed with delight.
