Aye. They must be indoctrinated to believe they are Almighty; or, they prescreen employees for sadistic tendencies (which are becoming more common these days, unless I miss my guess).

All prospective 87K employees are taken to a room and told to shoot some stranger with a hood over his head tied up in the corner a la Bourne.

My late father-in-law worked for the IRS for one year in the 1950’s. Nearing his anniversary date he went in and asked his supervisor for a meeting and the guy said great I was about to call you in for a meeting, we want to promote you to a new position. My FIL said I was actually going to give you notice that I was leaving the agency. What? Why? You are going to have a great career, why would you leave? My FIL said after a year of working here I have come to realize I am playing for the wrong team. The supervisor was stunned. He worked his notice, worked as a CPA until his death and never looked back. The only agency he hated more than the IRS or ATF was possibly the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet.

He worked for a client at one point who the IRS went after for taxes he allegedly didn’t pay. My FIL and the client showed evidence that this was settled law in several US districts and no taxes were owed. The IRS doubled down and during discovery they found the IRS powers that be knew they were in the wrong and that they would lose the case but openly stated continue, we will destroy the taxpayers business and bankrupt him for daring to defy us. My FIL and the clients attorney presented this in court and the judge went ballistic for indeed they had destroyed the taxpayers business and were about to bankrupt him. The judge awarded the case to the taxpayer, he got court costs, attorneys fees, any other expenses associated with the case and as an added swipe of wrath toward the IRS a substantial chunk of $ for punitive damages.
