I used to know a gruff Chief Aviation Ordinanceman who was never quite right until he had his cup of coffee each morning, and he would get irritable with all the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed lower ratings who would greet him in the morning with a cheery “Good Morning, Chief!”

I heard him growl one time: “When I retire, I am going to get myself a dog, and I am going to name that dog “Chief”. When I get up each morning, I am going to kick that dog as I say “Good Morning, Chief!”

All these years later, I still grin when I recollect him saying that!

Well, God bless your dad. I’m 84 and when I get to that other place we’ll set down and spin some tall Navy stories together.
