So many states will arrest YOU if you kill a dangerous predator, that most people will hesitate. In PA you can’t shoot bears or rattlesnakes anymore without risk of going to prison if they are near your domicile. This is one case where a federal law would be useful, saying that every American has the right to shoot any dangerous predator on sight to include any poisonous snake, dog/coyote/wolf, bear, alligator, birds of prey, with no questions asked and regardless of protected status.

Very sad. People have become lulled into complacency by assumptions that aren’t true - one of which is the trope that bears are less dangerous than humans. We get few bear attacks because humans don’t hang around bear habitats much, so run into very few bears, relative how many other humans we encounter each day.

.44 magnum is the cure for bears in your yard.

If you live in the suburbs or the country and you if your neighbors keep chickens, there’s a very good chance bears have been in your yard and will be back. If you take your dog out for a late pee, you better have a firearm handy.

I don’t care how tough your Pitbull or Shepard is, the bear is tougher

Likely moved to a shelter or sanctuary if they’re too young to be self sufficient.

That cartoon and the toilet paper ad are part of the problem. Children, who grow up, get the wrong impression about bears ... if they have claws and fangs, they are to be feared.

FYI... Black bear attacks are mainly from male bears not sows with cubs...they usually run. FACT

Respected, anyway. I’ve been really close to black bears, and they generally take off quickly when they discover it.

Bird feeders should not be used in neighborhoods where bears roam.

It was Butler Township, Butler County, PA. I live a few miles away but in a different township. I see black bears in my yard all the time and they are never a problem. But when I so see one, I arm myself (much like coyotes which in PA there is no closed season). But I do hate the scat they leave in the back yard.
