Everyone complains twice a year. It's hard to wake up when we switch to Daylight Saving Time! It gets dark too early after we switch back! Etc., etc., etc.

Changing the time twice per year is the best situation to maximize light, depending on the season, and yes, some people can't deal with change. Oh well. Stop being babies.

My mom was a night-shift hospital nurse for years. When we “fell back” an hour in the fall, she never received pay for the extra hour worked. When they “sprung forward” in the spring, they got docked for an hour the clock said they didn’t work.

It was simply unjust, and I think illegal.

I have never felt an adverse physical effect from switching back and forth, but I can relate to the idea of not changing twice a year simply because consistency makes sense. Because I dearly love the long evenings in summer, my preference would be to have DST the entire year, but it’s just an hour so I’m sure I would quickly not miss that extra hour if we kept standard time all year. What I tire of mostly is all the whining about it twice a year, yet there never seems to be much effort made to actually mount enough support to change the law.

Every year there is talk about getting rid of it so I wish it would finally happen. I hate having to reset my clocks twice a year.

Unfortunately, it’s something we need general agreement on - like which side of the road we drive on.

It could be done state by state though, since people are already used to time zone differences. Maybe MAGA could lead a movement whereby red states quit DST. Blue states would eventually follow suit.

I hate it both times a year that we change the clocks. It messes me up for almost a week twice a year. Stick with one or the other. I don’t care which. Just make a decision and stick with it.

I like having the sun set close to 9 p.m. in the summer rather than have it rise around 4 a.m. so I can enjoy the sunlight when I am awake. I never have any physical issues from either change. I have heard of dogs having their feeding times thrown off by the change, but my dog came looking for food and treats yesterday and today the same times she came on Saturday. Maybe I’ll take her on a nice walk after dinner.

Let's compromise--I get Day Savings in the summer, and you can have Standard time in the winter.

I am so sick of Daylight Savings Time.

I've been around for 61 years. At this point my body is accustom to it. I started waking up an hour early two weeks ago and couldn't figure out why. Then I realized the time change was coming and it made sense.

We should still get rid of it.

Nowadays adjusting the clock twice a year is a compromised solution that provides an extra hour of daylight in the evening for families to enjoy being outdoors more during the summer period, but returning to Standard Time in the winter, when there are fewer daylight hours, so that morning commuters and school children will have some daylight hours in the morning.

DST is not needed as much the closer one gets to the equator; Hawaii, most of Arizona, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and American Samoa do not use DST.

DST becomes meaningless the closer you get to the poles. However, Alaska, with its two time zones, still uses DST, even though parts of the state have daylight all day during some of the summer and no daylight in some of the winter.

If you want to blame something for the changing length of daylight hours during the year, which results in the usefulness of daylight saving time, blame the 23 degrees tilt of the Earth’s axis as it orbits the Sun. Of course, without that 23 degrees tilt, life on Earth might not be possible.

The hour change should be only a minor inconvenience, especilly for people who regularly fly to (or from) different time zones. Of course, those living near the western edge of a time zone already get a little later sunset in the evening (and a little later sunrise in the morning) compared to those near the eastern edge of the same time zone.

I had a corporate guy from FedEx tell me that there are few things the company deals with that are more disruptive than changing the clock twice a year.

The problem is exacerbated by the fact that the company is doing more and more business globally with countries that don't have DST. Very few (if any) countries in Asia observe it.

Contrary to the racist comment about the alleged beliefs of a “white man,” no one has claimed that DST provides a longer day or provides more total daylight hours in a day.

DST simply shifts the clock time during the summer, when there is more daylight hours, to give an extra hour of sunshine in the evening, at the expense of one less hour of sunshine in the morning.
