Former President Donald Trump and his allies on the Republican National Committee want to convince Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to speak at the GOP convention in July, people familiar with the matter told CNBC.
Republican leaders believe that giving Musk a speaking slot at the convention could lead to some of his fans boosting what has been the party’s historically lagging support among young adult voters on Election Day, said a source with knowledge of that belief.
Trump is expected to be confirmed at the Milwaukee, Wisconsin, event as the Republican presidential nominee, setting up a rematch of his 2020 contest against President Joe Biden in the election this November.
Musk’s potential speaker role was disclosed after he reportedly met with Trump and a group of wealthy Republican donors last weekend in Palm Beach, Florida. It is not clear if Trump or his allies have raised the idea with Musk.
That sitdown came days before the former president’s landslide victories in the Super Tuesday primaries, which led his last major challenger, former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, to drop out of the nomination contest.

Trump wants Musk to speak; Musk had been a supporter of Ron DeSantis early on. Would this help to unify the party and bring in more votes?
Musk has been quite vocal on the issue with illegal immigration and he now has a taste of the Democrats' lawfare. Maybe they picked on the wrong man.
I think he would be a great speaker. He doesn't even have to talk about politics IMHO, people just want to hear what he says.
I don't see why Musk can't speak. Bring him on.
If I were him, I wouldn’t announce my support for Trump. Instead I would talk about open borders, lawfare and how the Democrats are a threat to the Constitution.
I would keep business and politics as seperate as one can.
IMHO Zell Miller was the highlight of the 2004 RNC, saying then much like Musk does now (that his beliefs haven’t changed, but the Dim party keeps moving further left, making the Republicans more attractive).
That is impossible. Politicians depend on campaign cash from business, and business depends on favorable legislation by politicians. That is our system, like it or not. Why do you think Trump was donating to democrats in NY?
To be honest Zell Miller is not a person history will remember.
Of all the people around I think Musk will be remembered as an Oppenheimer, Tesla, Newton, etc. He’s really one of the outstanding minds of our time.
He combines business with scientific whit which is really unusual.
It’s not that I worship him, it’s just that of all the “elites” of our era he is the only free thinker among them and probably one of the smartest.
Asperger’s Syndrome has its upsides (it’s a form of autism Elon says he has).
You are correct about Trump; He can be too abrasive and I don’t know if that came from his background in New York political circles or not.
His cringe comments irritate his supporters, no matter how the MSM tries to spin it as a cult.
Take the vaccine issue for example. He was booed at his Cullman, Alabama rally when he bragged about it. That should tell him not to bring it up again but he does.
I agree more with RFK Jr. about that.
But people love him because he loves us. Plain and simple.
You can’t get that from other politicians.
Musk would just be icing on the cake, but he can only be President of South Africa and that will never happen.
Hmmm???
I would not speak at the convention. That was my point. Never said not to donate. Most times its protection money.
Musk would be an interesting speaker, and because he’s generally viewed a great innovative genius and independent thinker, I certainly don’t think having him as convention speaker would hurt Trump’s campaign. But how much would it really help? I don’t think I can think of a single example wherein some convention speaker was a game-changer for one candidate or or another
Elon Musk would be an interesting speaker. Also, make him a cabinet member, Secretary of the Treasury or Commerce! He’d be a great Commerce Secretary.
Or a Toilet, symbols of the Biden's presidency! 🤓
The context of this thread is on if Musk would be a good speaker for the RNC this year. Remembering how Miller fired up older undecideds in his year, I could see how Musk could fire up some young undecideds this year.
Like it or not, Elon Musk is one of the most recognizable names in America, and his presence on stage is a positive in attracting younger voters especially.
Trump or any other conservative for that matter can not win national election only with conservative voters. America has changed a lot in last 20 years. If republicans wish to win national office, they better expand the tent.
