Video footage captured the horrifying moment a convicted felon attempted to abduct a schoolgirl in Arizona while she was on the phone with her mother.
The quick-thinking 14-year-old spotted the man and managed to escape by fleeing across houses.
Glendale police arrested Timothy Guan, 28, for attempted kidnapping, marking the second such incident in Glendale this year. The man was booked on charges of kidnapping and aggravated assault.
Glendale police officer Moroni Mendez stated the man had followed the girl as she walked home from school while she was on the phone with her mom. The teen had a bad feeling and sprinted away from the near-kidnapping.
'She’s like, "Mom, somebody is chasing me,"' the teen's mom Valerie Fraijo said.
Guan, with a history of criminal activity involving juveniles, was apprehended with the help of surveillance footage.
Officers received a call around 1:30 pm last Wednesday in the area of 87th Ave. and Solano Drive, where they found the 14-year-old who said she was a victim of an attempted kidnapping, police said at a news conference Wednesday.
She was walking home from Raymond S. Kellis High School when she noticed a white vehicle pull up behind her and drop off a man at a nearby intersection.
She took notice of the speed Guan walking behind her, noticing the suspect would either match her speed or increase his pace to get closer to her.
Mendez sensed a feeling of danger immediately as the man began to follow her.
She decided to run off into a nearby neighborhood, where she eventually bumped into a resident walking his dog. She explained to him the situation and they called the police.
