The better case is against LBJ as central to the plot, which was carried out by professional snipers arranged and assisted by the Mafia and elements of the CIA, FBI, and Secret Service. The agencies acted based on Kennedy's derelictions in national security and vulnerability to blackmail. Texas oil interests helped finance the plot, with LBJ's hitman (Malcolm Wallace) involved as well. If not for the assassination, Johnson would have been dropped from the ticket and prosecuted for corruption.

Notably, the coverup, which required Johnson's help, was integral to the assassination, with the Warren Report burying the evidence and providing a false lone gunman narrative against the hapless Oswald. The recent revelation by a Secret Service agent that he found the so-called "pristine bullet" just behind Kennedy's seat on the trunk of the limo means that it could not have been a "magic bullet" and indicates that were at least five shots.

The first shot missed entirely. The second shot was undercharged and hit Kennedy on the back of his right shoulder and popped out to be recovered by Secret Service Agent Landis. A third shot hit Kennedy in the neck from the front. A fourth shot hit Connally. The fifth hit Kennedy's head. Other shots are also possible and there were multiple shooters.
