Star Wars mastermind George Lucas — Disney’s largest individual shareholder — has come out with a statement supporting Disney’s board and CEO Bob Iger, urging Mouse House investors to reject bids by two activist investor groups to take seats on the media company’s board.
“Creating magic is not for amateurs,” Lucas said in a statement released Tuesday. “When I sold Lucasfilm just over a decade ago, I was delighted to become a Disney shareholder because of my longtime admiration for its iconic brand and Bob Iger’s leadership.”
Lucas continued, “When Bob recently returned to the company during a difficult time, I was relieved. No one knows Disney better. I remain a significant shareholder because I have full faith and confidence in the power of Disney and Bob’s track record of driving long-term value. I have voted all of my shares for Disney’s 12 directors and urge other shareholders to do the same.”

Lucas started off loathing the modern corporate studio system. He has become the very thing he hated.

My guess is he is supporting management because he might feel he will look foolish for having sold to them in the first place. He knows how much damage has been done. Of course he has advisers and just maybe he getting a lot of bad advice or even worse he doesn’t control his stock any longer and it is being managed by trusts and bankers.

As a kid, Disney followed Wild Kingdom on Sunday nights on the old black and white TV. I miss those shows, even though they could be corny.
At one time Lucas had 37M shares of Disney. Of course he is all on whatever increases the share price.
I am severely disappointed in Lucas. Especially after Disney and Kathleen Kennedy betrayed him on their deal regarding Star Wars movies/universe.
When Disney bought Lucasfilm from him the price was $4 billion. I imagine a big chunk of that was paid in Disney shares. Just a guess but I don’t think they wrote a $4 billion check to him.
