Botswana threatens to send 20,000 elephants to Germany

Earlier this year, Germany's environment ministry suggested there should be stricter limits on importing trophies from hunting animals.

Botswana's President Mokgweetsi Masisi told German media this would only impoverish people in his country. He said elephant numbers had exploded as a result of conservation efforts, and hunting helped keep them in check. Germans should "live together with the animals, in the way you are trying to tell us to", Mr Masisi told German newspaper Bild. Herds were causing damage to property, eating crops and trampling residents, Mr Masisi said.

Germany is the EU's largest importer of African elephant trophies, and hunting trophies overall, according to a 2021 report by the Humane Society International.

Botswana has previously given 8,000 elephants to neighbouring Angola, and has offered hundreds more to Mozambique, as a means of bringing the population down. "We would like to offer such a gift to Germany," Mr Masisi said.

Botswana's Wildlife Minister Dumezweni Mthimkhulu last month threatened to send 10,000 elephants to London's Hyde Park so British people could "have a taste of living alongside" them. In March, UK MPs had voted to support a ban on importing hunting trophies.

I happen to like elephants better than people.

So the best solution is to thin the Homo Erectus heard instead and let the elephants have their own native land.

That’s what Germany basically means when they say that they don’t want thinning of the heard happen.

Liberals, being the gnostics they are, want the thinning of the heard to happen without profit. Just cost.

Love it!! One live flourishing elephant for each trophy you take into your country. I worked for guy who went to Africa every 2 or 3 years. Its staggering how much they pay for gear and tickets and guns and ammo and permits and guides a ton of incidentals to get to go hunting. Then........BANG!

I’m all for the current conservation efforts. Most folks that use this method have flourishing results. And BRAVO for stuffing it to Germany with a dose of the truth!

You could lead by example.

I am sure they will be happy to move an elephant into your house.

Better than the “migrants” they’ve been taking in. Cuter, smarter, and willing to work.

Tip: Don’t honk your car horn at an elephant. He may think you have a baby elephant in the trunk, and will trash your car trying to find and free it.

And here is one minute of what a comparatively small Indian elephant can do to your car.
Or trucks in this case.

It’s 5,209 miles from Botswana to Germany. I’m not sure what’s the walking speed of an unladen African elephant but I’m pretty sure that it isn’t very fast.

Somebody must have hit the elephant with their buggywhip one too many times. He’s had enough!

That’s a great idea...people who push these so called “conservation” policies don’t have to live with the consequences. To me, its similar to some enviro wonkies pushing to reintroduce apex predators back into areas where they had been eliminated because of the dangers they presented...animals like grizzlies and wolves.

Yes, its cruel to use snares and traps on the animals like some do BUT there’s a lot of damage those elephants do to people living their lives. The affected folk should have the most say over their management. Not those who lecture from 5000 miles away.

Germany tried elephant panzers in WWII. Didn't work out that well for them.

Hilarious. I think it is an excellent idea to transport elephants into the backyards of anyone who doesn’t support proper game management.
