I Think Google is at it Again

Good afternoon folks

I titled my posting the way I did because, well, Google has done something to make internet browsing more difficult.

I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but in my Windows 10 O/S, when I bring up anything Google related, such as my webmail, Youtube, Google Maps, etc, it asks me to re-input my username and password every time I close the browser and reopen it. I haven't changed a thing with my browser settings (that I'm aware of), so I'm wondering if Google has done something in the newer Chromium based web browsers to make this happen. Heck, it even happens in Chromium itself! Google also changed the way bookmarks are saved. Unless you make a change in the chrome://flags to a bookmarks settings, it automatically saves your bookmarks to the "All Bookmarks" location.

Now here's the kicker, and this is why I think it's something in the newer releases. If I go back to my Windows 7 O/S, I don't have those problems. That's why I think they've changed something in the newer Chromium based releases.

If you've seen these occurring, and know of a fix, can you post it here, but this post is for us to chat about these changes, and to yes, vent a little. For me, I'm going back to Windows 7 until these problems are remedied.

I’m running Windows 11 with Google Chrome and have not noticed any of that.

When I try to post a political comment to Free Republic, I sometimes get logged off before I can finish my post.

You accidentally got into incognito mode. Close the browser and go into normal mode.

Try using the Brave browser. It doesn’t track you and report you to the Google-Borg.

Stop using Windows. It is the virus.

It sounds like he is using a VPN or some other privacy tool that disables cookies and “appears” that he is using a different machine every time he goes online.

I have similar problems on one of my Win10 machines. I have to log into Google every time I restart. It also auto-updates the OS even though I have set it to never auto update. It also won’t update the Chrome browser so I’m running a version that’s at least 18 months old. Tells me to update Chrome but when I do it never installs and tells me to manually download and update which also doesn’t work. I have to log in to get to Gmail and my browser history and saved passwords on that machine. I don’t use that particular device much but I have the exact same model computer in another location and it has no such issues. Something bizarre about that one particular build or something, or some bug somewhere deep inside the OS.

Sorry this is probably no help to you… just saying something is weird for me too and I think it’s a specific issue on that one device. It asks me to upgrade to Win11 I’m really afraid to!

That has happened to me as well. There have been a few times where my laptop would freeze while trying to post something here. Coincidence? I wonder.

Sounds cookie related. Maybe you should just delete your google account an be done with it.

"every time I close the browser and reopen it"

Sounds like a browser setting is removing a site setting or password credential, when you quit the browser.

I have Brave and Slimjet, and both of them ask me to sign in each time I open the browser. It asks me to use my Google account.

I’m not using a VPN, and the browsers are not blocking cookies.

Ah ha, so I'm not the only one this is happening to. It's strange that it happens when I'm using Windows 10, but when I boot to my Windows 7 O/S, everything is fine. That's why I think it's a update that Google is making that they are not telling us about, and Chromium browsers in Windows 7 stopped updating sometime last year.

And what's really weird, is that it started happening on one of my computers days before the other one started doing the same thing. Both of them are dual booted with W7 and W10 so I'm going back to Windows 7 until this nonsense stops. And if it doesn't, then it's back to Linux.

I’ve got the cookies setting as they’ve always been. I’ve been contemplating moving away from all things Google. If this nonsense keeps up, I’m going to.

That’s what I was thinking, but the browser isn’t set up to do that, yet, that’s what it looks like it’s doing.

Nothing like that has ever happened to me. Google Chrome / Windows 10 Pro.

Do you have an extension that you use in all your browsers that could be set to remove cookies on sign off?
