By coincidence I started watching this today. The real story starts at the 14:00 point. There is also an episode of “Why Files” that covers this. (WF is always fun.)
Interesting that this is the only Why Files I've seen where he doesn't do a really good debunking job.

I live WF but he has come quite clear that he is, if anything, a CIA asset.
His wife did Cyanide and Happiness though, which was pretty awesome.
