A Possible Look At TREEBEARD???
Corona's Coming Attractions ^ | Patrick Sauriol

Posted on 08/16/2002 2:09:21 PM PDT by Long Cut

A toy company, "Applause Entertainment", has some pictures on its website of various action figures from the upcoming Lord of the Rings movie, "The Two Towers". One such photo may be of their figure for Treebeard, the old Ent who helps out Merry and Pippin. As such, it also might be VERY close to the way the old tree-herder will look in the movie. Corona's Coming Attractions at http://corona.bc.ca/films/main.html has the story, just go to the link and scroll down to the link "Treebikini"(?). The photo itself MUST be considered a SPOILER and should be viewed only after some thought, as the movie isn't out yet and some might like the surprise.

Anyway, you've been warned. the photo of the toy is at THIS LINK. Enjoy!

Well, what's everyone think? Personally, like everything else about this movie epic, I think it's just as I pictured.

You've got the ping list, and I don't know how to use one. What do YOU think? This does APPEAR to be solid info, but you know how the 'net can be. I haven't forgotten my months-old screwup with Gollum. I hope this is my redemption.

Of all the characters in LOTR, Treebeard is one that I had trouble picturing. But I think that toy is what he should look like. Yeah everything is amazingly like I thought it might be. They did a great job of bringing the book to life.

TTT Spoiler alert!

hehehehehe - I can ping the Hobbit Hole Regulars and the Two Towers Spoiler lists, yes! (I don't use the big Green Dragon list for anything but that) Ecurbh will ping his big list when he comes around!

We talked about this toy lately, and though I don't love it yet, I think it is because it is hard for me to accept it as real without the size and the texture of Treebeard as we will see him on screen. Others agree with you!

I have the other past images of Treebeard handy from last weeks Green Dragon discussion, so I shall post them too in a minute, for more conversation fodder!

This magnificent movie trilogy is a perfect example of what can happen when a filmmaker(in this case, Peter Jackson) truly loves and RESPECTS his source material. He's literally getting everything right!

Contrast this with how the Armani-suited blow-dried imbeciles who run the Hollywood machine usually do buisiness. The Sum of All Fears, Queen of the Damned, Godzilla, all of these are the result of the slapdash, sell-toys-be-PC-screw-the-fans attitude that pervades the American film capitol

Here is an excerpt from my post last week in the Green Dragon.... links to Treebeard pictures...

Treebeard is one of those characters that has been drawn many times, never fitting the image that is in my mind… I searched and considered pictures and paintings of him to include in this post, and there are many versions, from the Brothers Hildebrandt, whose Treebeard I grew up with on my wall, to John Howe, to Alan Lee, to silly things! Do a Google-Image search on Treebeard or Fangorn for a fraction of the wacky images that are out there.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here is the brief shot of Treebeard we saw in the Two Towers preview in the theaters in March. In the picture below we have Pippin of course, clinging to what appears to be a tree. Visible, but hard to see until it blinks, is a hint at what Treebeard will look like, for the tree that Pippin is clinging to has eyes, and our hobbit friend appears to be holding him by the nose. I apologize that it is hard to see… I have found no bigger images to choose from that will post!
LOL! Yes! I thought the picture hadn't been posted because it was too big...so I thoughtfully posted a smaller one, only to read that Long Cut was being courteous to those that might not want to see a spoiler! I had the Moderator remove it!
Hehehe - I figured....
Well, It seems that those who truly don't want to see should not click on a thread named "A Possible Look At TREEBEARD???" But you are right, I suppose, Not posting it does I guess give them an opportunity for buyer's remorse.
It seems like Al Gore would be a natural for this role.
I haven't seen those, but Islands in the Stream with George C. Scott really made me mad. I was really looking forward to it, but about all that seemed similar to Hemingway's book was the title. Imagine filming a Bimini setting in Hawaii! It was supposed to take place on a tiny flat "coral" Bahamian island about 50 yards wide with white sand, not a huge island with mountains and yellow dirt and South Sea jungles.
Imagine taking a Hemingway manuscript and then not paying any attention to it.
The claws and thick ankles made me think of Hillary.
J/K. It looks cool! I can't wait to see the movie.
