MEMORANDUM FOR FRED'S INSIDERS
E-Mail from Friends of Fred Thompson, Inc. | October 4, 2007 | William B. Lacy, Campaign Manager

Posted on 10/06/2007 3:19:05 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Welcome to the first edition of our insider's email. We have created it to keep you posted on important news about Fred's campaign.

INSIDERS NEWS:

FRED RAISES NEARLY $13M FOR FIRST FEC FILING; THE CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN REVOLUTION OF 1994

Great, exciting news: Our first FEC report will show $12.7M raised from 80,000 contributors. For the quarter we have raised $9.3M with $7M cash-on-hand. More than 60% of our quarter's total of over $9M came since Fred announced with contributions averaging over $200K daily. Some in the media are making comparisons to other candidates' first quarter #'s which misses the point: Most of our period included the typically very slow summer. Our campaign is well on it's way to having the cash to get Fred's message to voters in key states. Take a look at the comparison chart with Romney's campaign below:

THE CHART

Romney Thompson

Days since announcement

230 // 26

3rd Quarter Contributions

$9.5 Million* // $9.3 Million

3rd Quarter Contributors

23,000 // 80,000

Cash on hand

$9 Million // $7 Million

Cash on hand without loan

$0.5 Million // $7 Million

Total Expenditures

$53 Million // $6 Million

NBC/WSJ Poll (9/28-30)

10% // 23%

*Based on report today (10/4/07) from NBC's Domenico Montanaro

This week in Iowa , Fred spoke of his role in the Republican Revolution of 1994. This begins to establish what we feel is a winning theme: Fred ran as an authentic conservative in 1994 when Mayor Giuliani endorsed Mario Cuomo and Gov. Romney criticized Ronald Reagan.

You'll be hearing this more.

NEWS COVERAGE: GREAT TIMES, GLOBE PROFILES; DISCONNECTED BELTWAY MEDIA?

This weekend there were a couple good profile pieces that are worthy of checking out: one in the New York Times by Jo Becker, G.O.P. Hopeful Took Own Path in the Senate, and another in the Boston Globe by Michael Kranish titled Early crisis led to dramatic turnaround.

Also of note: an article by Howard Kurtz, Out-of-Town Critics Too Tough On Thompson?, and an article from the St. Petersburg Times, Where Voters Live, Thompson Matters, that discusses the disconnect between how the national "inside-the-beltway media" and the local media are covering Fred on the trail.

TALKING POINTS: THE SPIRIT OF '94

· Fred Thompson was proud to take up and defend core conservative values when he ran for the U.S. Senate in 1994.

· Unlike Fred, some Republicans in 1994 lost because they campaigned like they were Democrats, endorsed Democrats, and supported Democratic policies.

· Fred Thompson stuck to his core conservative first principles, and won.

· Today conservatives want to secure our borders, while Democrats and some Republicans want to give illegal aliens special access to American jobs.

· Today conservatives want to defend freedom and combat Islamic radicals overseas, while Democrats and some Republicans are racing to surrender.

Fred Thompson: "Every good idea doesn't come from Washington , DC - in fact I haven't seen any good ones in a while. And that's why it's even more important that we win this election and win it by standing on principle."

WHERE TO SURF

Please check out Peter Mulhern's explanation of why Fred will win on RealClearPolitics.com. Also, on Tuesday pollster Douglas Schoen wrote a commentary on who votes and decides the GOP Primaries. Here is an interesting excerpt: The implications of this analysis are clear: Fred Thompson is in a much stronger position among the people who will actually decide Republican primaries and caucuses than most observers understand. And Rudy Giuliani's support is sufficiently soft and is made up in part of voters who are attracted to his celebrity and have a much lower likelihood of actually voting.

POLLS

Fred continues to poll well in the national Rasmussen survey, which shows him ahead. Most national surveys show us in a strong second...Newsweek polls Fred moving to second at 16% in Iowa ... Rasmussen SC data shows us at 24% and leading in SC.

SCHEDULE

This week Fred was in Iowa ...next week he participates in his first debate in Dearborn , MI . The debate will be broadcast live on CNBC at 4 PM ET and will be re-broadcast on MSNBC at 9 PM ET that evening. I hope you will tune in. Fred will also be in Texas and Tennessee

Do you have a link to the table showing the Thompson/Romney comparison?...... The table would be good to post on this thread.

Former Senator Fred Thompson is the only candidate that gets it. He makes decisions based on principles. Principles don’t change. You have to stand for something and not change who you are based on the polls. That is what Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani have done and all of the Democrats do it. Give me a leader that will stand by his principles anyday versus someone that stands for everything.

I know many Republicans and conservatives that will stay home if former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is the candidate. He does not represent our values as conservatives, and never will. Former Governor Willard “Mitt” Romney is a Republican-in-name-only (RINO ) that simply has everything else and nothing to do. “I guess I’ll just try to buy the presidency”. The White House isn’t for sale! Conservatives will simply stay home and the Democrats will pick up additional seats in the House and probably get the 60 seats in the Senate they need to completely destroy our country. Nice picture huh?

However, I think Fred can bring America back together, if that’s even possible. America needs a rebirth of patriotism and honor. Republicans also need a rebirth. President Reagan was our last rebirth and he can never be duplicated. Fred Thompson will bring his own down-to-earth common sense to this country. A little of the good old days of faith, federalism and family would do well for this country. If a conservative runs as a conservative, he will win!

Think of it this way: Eight years of another Clinton White House? Now if that is not a sufficient enough reason to pull together as a nation, and fight this socialist liberal takeover of our government, what is?

Folks, we are in for the fight of our lives, just as our young men and women are fighting for our freedoms in Iraq and Afghanistan, we must fight for our nation right here and now! I truly believe Fred Thompson is the one man who can pull this nation back together! Rudy Giuliani will just tear us apart.

This is impossible. I have it on good authority that FDT’s campaign is suffering cash issues and is stalled. I mean Mitt amd Hunter supporters would’nt lie would they...
