JFK got lots of credit when he said we would have a man on the moon by the end of the decade. It wasn't something we needed to do -- but it had some benefits, and people were in the mood for success in that area.

So what if it takes 10 years to get oil? One year or ten years -- increased energy production IS something we need to do, there are huge benefits, and the people are certainly in the mood for this.

No excuses, please. Just start, and we'll find out how long it takes. Removing roadblocks is all we need to get going.

Less than ten years would take it within the range of any prospective Obama Presidency, which means he’d be in trouble with his valued enviro-lobby...

Obama and his ilk want the United States to become a Third World country.

Another lie-

The people in those states don't want to drill for oil.

When I lived in Alaska for numerous years (97 - 01) the governor is on the record for wanting to drill, as were the elected state representatives, the native tribes, and the residents............ and now I hear on TV some Democrat actually stating that the “People in Alaska don't want to drill.”

That's playing into the ignorance of people. Most don't know better, so when you say some BS like that and no one questions it, it sort of sticks and leaves an impression.

Oil is seriously looking like it’s starting to roll over today.

Repeated polls of Alaskan residents show support for new drilling in Alaska in excess of 70%.

Further, the Alaska State legislature recently voted 56-2 (I believe that was the number) urging congress to open drilling in ANWAR.

Anyone who says the people of Alaska are against drilling are flat out liars.

Nothing to be exicted about. 2 weeks ago it dropped just shy of $4, then the next day it shot up $9.

It would take Obama ten years to figure out which end of the drill to stick in the ground first.

True, but open interest is dropping, haven’t seen volume stats. The consolidation area it’s in is getting long in the tooth, if new buying doesn’t take hold it will roll.

Yeah, I heard him on the radio the other day and he said 1 year for most and 2 years for the rest of the wells. This isn’t the 70’s, it’s the new millenium, and the tech is way ahead of the dems.

Obama has also said we can’t drill our way out of this problem. That may be true for the short term because we can’t get the oil immediately, but even if it took 10 years, it’s not like that would be hurting us now. One thing this country seriously lacks is investment and long term planning. Perhaps the best example of this is the national debt which can always be “tomorrow’s problem” and conveniently that’s always a day away.

Why do we give government so much control of the market place, and why are politicians so stupid?

I wonder why McCain continues to vote against drilling in ANWR while now supporting the position that it should be left up to the states. Alaskans want to drill. I realize that ANWR is federall land, but McCain’s logic is inconsistent.

Because he is attempting a half assed flip flop to try and gain a couple votes. He doesn't really support it.

I should have included the sarcasm tag. As usual, McCain is trying to have it both ways.

Becuase we have horrible leadership. McCain is a very principled guy, but I think he takes the wrong stances on way too many issues. Maybe if we scream loud enough he’ll back down again like he did with the amnesty bill.

He didn't back down from the amnesty bill and still favors granting permanent legal status to the vast majority of illegals here. The lesson he learned, supposedly, is one of sequencing, i.e., first secure the border and then grant amnesty. McCain hasn't changed his views.

CNBC had a panel on yesterday, including those that work in the oil industry. All of them said the 10 year claim was nothing but political theater and all were in agreement that within 5 years we would see a substantial increase in domestic output.
