Sen. John Cornyns Facebook friends arent in a very friendly mood. The Texas Republicans page on the popular social networking website has been filled with comments like this one from a Florida real estate broker: As soon as I read of your endorsement of Charlie Crist, I sent in a donation to the Marco Rubio campaign.
A new Facebook group has since cropped up challenging members to give not one penny to the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), of which Cornyn is chairman. The online groups description says: First they supported Chafee. Then they supported Specter. Now they support Crist. Its organizer and admin is Erick Erickson of the popular conservative blog RedState.
This isnt just a story of how cutting-edge technologies can cut both ways. Cornyn has found himself caught up in the struggle between conservatives and moderates over the Republican Partys future. Several primaries in upcoming races will feature party-backed moderate candidates facing off against strong conservative challengers. The showdown brewing between Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and former state House Speaker Marco Rubio for Republican Mel Martinezs U.S. Senate seat is just the latest front in this ongoing battle.
Cornyns decision to weigh in on behalf of Crist can be explained by a headline that appeared in the Hill in February: Florida Senate poll shows Crist annihilating field.
. . . . .
But head-to-head matchups show Rubio would be competitive if he managed to make it to the general election. Rubio could win but hed need our help, says a Senate Republican staffer. Crist would be the overwhelming favorite and we wouldnt have to lift a finger. The idea is to keep the Florida Senate seat safe while Republicansalready a beleaguered minorityhave to defend more ground than the Democrats.

This is exactly why RINOs—and their apologists, including Cornyn—are so dangerous to conservatives.
I agree. I think the real message will get through, when we retire McCain, Cornyn, Graham... the list goes on. We need to put these folks out to pasture in the primaries, then get some great new blood in there.
It’s time to absolutely turn the RP on it’s head.
The old guard, has got to go.
You realize of course, they’ll just set up shop in the Democrat party, and do what they’ve been doing all along.
At least they will be flying their true colors. As it is, conservatives--particularly those in the Republican Party--have to deal with both opponents that are clearly marked (the Democrats) and enemies within (RINOs).
DeMint’s Senate Conservatives Fund is better.
Meanwhile, the TX Old Guard has a fine time in March 2010 choosing between Hutchison and Perry, with no conservative in the race!
Better they go to their true calling.
I have never understood how Cornyn got elected to anything, for he is so low-key (vanilla is more exciting than he) as to be unrecognized by the great masses. I guess he wins because the opposition is so much worse.
I agree those kinds of actions should be a wakeup call never to donate to the NRSC. It's fine to send money to Senate candidates, but I think it should always been sent to individual candidates, not to PACs. Even Palin and DeMint's PAC is probably funding one or two candidates that most freepers wouldn't like.
Although I have to say the freepers who sent checks to Joe LIEberman showed as bad judgment as the NRSC did for backing Arlen Specter in 2004.
“Grassroot Republicans” are those who reject about 90% of the GOP candidates aren’t they?
How many elected officials are currently admired or acceptable to these folks?
He has been posting “Questions for Sotomayor” and my question is if Cornyn will actually ask them to her.
It’s kind of hard to support patriots when there aren’t any running. These people rise from the business community. And in the business community they have been trained to go along to get along. They couch their words and actions, to blend in. And when it comes time to run for office, they continue to have the same mindset.
Maybe that’s off base, but it’s the only explanation I have for what is taking place.
Well... I’m going to take that under advisement. ;-)
I’m not sure about your last assessment, but I do agree sending money directly to their campaign is better. I’m not convinced their PACs give money to people we don’t like, but I’m certainly not going to say it’s definitive that they don’t.
What is it about D.C. that turns good people bad?
Cornyn never was good people. He's always been a Rockefeller Republican, or to modernize the term, a Bush Republican. He’s never been a conservative. He just claims to be one. He gets elected because he is the lesser of two evils.
To hell with the RINO PARTY!!! |

DeMint better stay away from the RINOs.
