Palin's backing pays off
The Politico ^ | June 9, 2010 | Andy Barr

Some of Sarah Palin’s riskiest endorsements scored major victories Tuesday for the former Alaska governor, showing off her power in Republican primaries.

Palin had four primary endorsements in play – Carly Fiorina, Nikki Haley, Terry Branstad and Cecile Bledsoe – and three won or moved on to a runoff.

Palin served different roles for each candidate – sometimes spotlighting conservatives not well known to the national scene while at others validating conservative credentials to an unsure grassroots and even stepping in to deflect nasty attacks.

Perhaps Palin’s most powerful demonstration came in South Carolina, where her endorsement propelled a major swing in the polls for Haley’s primary campaign for governor and sustained the state representative through accusations of two separate affairs.

"Her decision to get - and stay - involved in the race here in South Carolina was a huge boon to our campaign, because it caused a lot of South Carolinians to take a second look at a rising in the polls but once-little known state legislator who was fighting to give them back their government,” Haley spokesman Tim Pearson said of Palin.

Palin was quick to defend Haley from blogger Will Folks, who claimed to have had an “inappropriate physical relationship” with Haley, writing on her Facebook page that Folks was trying to “make things up.”

Palin recorded a robocall for Haley in the closing days, urging South Carolinians to ignore the “made-up nonsense.”(continued)

Haley was clearly the most conservative candidate.

I don't recall anywhere in the media where the media was claiming that, despite the fact that he did endorse her candidacy over the others before Palin did.  Nevertheless, I don't think either endorsement impacted the results all that much, it was the dirty pool tactics employed by one of her opponents that helped.

Hey, newbie:

Did you know that then Governor Reagan signed an abortion bill and President Reagan signed an amnesty bill? Was he a “true conservative” by your definition?

Add to this moderate McCain's victory over Hayworth coming up, and she'll pretty much have a "full house".

Gee, real neato, keeno!

That's very slimy of you. Reagan clearly stated that he only signed the bill because his legislative advisors informed him that it would LOWER the number of abortions in California.

I don't have time to go over your posting history, but that's a trademark Romney-bot lie.

I worked for President Reagan, so cool your jets. I grew up in Chino and Santa Ana (1960-74) was involved in politics from a pretty young age, so I’m familiar with the situation. My point is that no candidate is going to agree with you 100% of the time, that’s impossible. As for Romney-bot, if Myth Romney gets our nomination, I’m off to the Philippines, never to be heard from again.

I’m glad to hear you’re no Romney-bot, but do NOT misrepresent President (then Governor) Reagan’s intents when he signed that bill.

By omitting what I mentioned, you sought to portray Reagan as one who supported abortion - aka, an “impure” conservative. That is WRONG.

You still didn't answer his original question and you admitted talking about his Amnesty bill, was he pure enough for you?

That should have been:

Reagan was human and made mistakes. That, pulling out of Lebanon, Bitburg, and Justice Sandra Day O'Conner were his big ones.

The key difference is that Ronnie's mistakes were not done out of crass political calculation, nor personal gain - he was pure of heart, so far as I could tell.

And he NEVER would have taken a huge pay raise while shipping US jobs overseas, like your candidate did.

But I'll reiterate: TO GIVE THE IMPRESSION THAT RONALD REAGAN SUPPORTED ABORTION BECAUSE WHEN GOVERNOR HE SIGNED A BILL INVOLVING ABORTION GOES AGAINST HISTORY, HIS OWN MEMOIRS, AND IS SCUMMY.

Running to Jim?

Grow up.

Furthermore, Carly wasn't my candidate, I voted for DeVore tonight.

Secondly, when did you become God and start reading the hearts of men and women to decide whose actions were of a pure heart and whose were not?

Thirdly, 2ndDivisionVet has already made clear his purpose in bringing up Reagan's signing of the Abortion bill, to prove a point to you and your lack of objectivity where Sarah Palin is concerned.

You'll give Reagan a pass, but pretend to know what the motivation of Governor Palin was in endorsing two bad candidates.

What a dufus.

What a fool you are. I never mentioned - nor even considered - Gov. Palin's endorsement of Carly Fiorina in any of my comments here.

Regarding pinging Jim, I've made the observation that historically he likes to know who actively lies about Reagan to pump up their sketchy candidate.

Telling the truth is now trashing someone? Hmmmm. Yes, he did play a major part in defeating the Soviet Union, I know, I was there. But we mustn’t deny facts because they're uncomfortable. He did sign an abortion bill and an amnesty bill and vilifying me won't change history.

He didn't trash anyone, he related the truth.

Reagan truly believed the abortion bill would lower the number of abortions.

The Democrats used his bill to increase abortions. He was truly upset and sorry after seeing how the bill was used.

He, as everyone on FreeRepublic knows, also signed an Amnesty Bill with tough enforcement provisions.

Once again, the Democrats in our Federal Government and some Republicans, being the evil little twits they are, allowed the Amnesty to go through, and refused to enact or enforce the enforcement provisions.

Think before you post.

So, why don't you show where I lied or 2ndDivisionVet lied?

ALl the posts are there in front of you.

Prove your point or be quiet.
