GOP may need a RINO to beat Obama (He's afraid a Third Party bid will give BHO another term)
The Dansville-Genesee Country Express ^ | March 2, 2011 | Kent Bush

Unless you have been involved in an airplane crash in the mountains and have had no food for days –– and some would argue even then –– cannibalism is a bad option. So why has it become such a popular pastime for the Republican Party?

The candidates who are admitting they might run against President Barack Obama in 2012 have almost no chance at competing with him –– much less making him a one-term president.

If the Republicans are serious about beating Obama, they need a conservative who can exist closer to the middle of the political spectrum.

Ron Paul has the same chance as I do at beating Obama in 2012. And Herman Cain? Really?

Those are the top two choices of the tea party patriots. Even Sarah Palin –– who took the tea party from a grassroots movement to a political force –– came in a distant third among those in the straw poll.

The recent The American Conservative Union’s CPAC straw poll also skewed further right than normal.

To win the White House back, the GOP candidate will need votes from independent voters and even a few Democrats. None of the announced candidates can pull those votes.

Even Palin would have a hard time getting more than 40 percent of the vote. She would certainly do as well or better than any of the other candidates announced; she just seems too polarizing to win.

And New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie showed why I don't think the Republicans will actually nominate a potentially successful candidate in 2012.

Christie took on Palin this weekend. He gave her "advice" that she needs to have some "unscripted" moments. Isn't it the Democrats job to attack Republicans?

Palin doesn't do many interviews that aren't in a controlled setting on Fox News. That is going to be an issue if she really runs. Her strength will be as a kingmaker, and the candidate she chooses to back will have an immediate and impressive bump in the polls.

But Christie going after her on national television gets to the heart of the matter. Republicans are cannibals. If one becomes too popular, the others tear them down.

I think part of the problem is that there are so many popular conservative voices on Fox News and talk radio, and they all need to hold onto their share of the ratings.

Politicians really have to verbally jump off a cliff to get noticed by the talking heads. They end up saying crazy things and becoming the darling of some of the programs and the target of the others.

Contrarianism and extremism draw an audience. They don't elect presidents.

The term RINO –– Republican in name only –– is the worst thing to happen to Republicans since Richard Nixon left office. It puts a catchy tool in the bag of those looking to bring down their GOP rivals.

I worry that even if a more moderate Republican makes it out of the primary process, then Paul, Palin or someone else from further right will take up a third-party challenge.

Bill Clinton would never have been elected without Ross Perot's help. Running a third party candidate from the far right in 2012 will be the best way to let Obama complete his remodeling in the West Wing at the White House.

As far as nominating a real conservative goes, I'd like to try it at least once before I'll believe it.

Any relation, BTW?

They don't mean rino, they mean Mitt.
No more liberals masquerading as Republicans.

Republicans win in 2012. Buma is 1-term. ANYONE who is capable of the slightest analysis and has watched the last 3 years can see this. They are going to pull out ALL the stops to tell us we need a RINO. We do NOT. This is a year for a REAGAN. We have a CARTER*10 in office. An opportunity like this comes ONCE a generation. Were he alive, we could run Goldwater and he would win this election.

Thoughts for the day

Republicans win in 2012. They are going to try very hard to force an insider candidate like Gingrich or Romney on us.

Conservatives are kept too busy. Downsize some, and give a day a week to joining/starting Tea Party action groups if you really want things to change.

Get rid of the TV. Even the most aware people are swallowing subtle propaganda through the TV.

Muslim atrocities in the USA are sure to punctuate the next few years. When they occur, try to open the public debate about muslim immigration. With each new muslim atrocity, the level of public discussion about the issue deserves to increase.

November proved that RINOs aren’t wanted by anyone other than RATs.

"Contrarianism and extremism draw an audience"

Funny, I always thought principles mattered

"May I remind you, that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice, moderation in the pursuit of justice no virtue."

I see Dems crossing over heavy for Mitt in open primary states.
Their version of Operation Chaos.

A Mittster win guarantees a Tea Party challenger on the ballot in many states.

While I believe Baraq is toast in any 2-way matchup, he could win with a Clintonian plurality. He has rock solid support somewhere in the 30s.

His idea of a “moderate” is someone going the same direction as the Dems, but 5 MPH slower.

We need to turn this ship around.

As if RINOs have done so well in the past. Let’s see, McCain, Dole, Bush(41). Bush(43) almost lost. And a real conservative did very well in 1980 and extremely well in 1984.

So what do we need to do?????

A “moderate” will never beat Obama. Period. We need a genuine contrast between his socialist policies and those that made America great, and we need a person who can articulate the difference.

Running a RINO is the reason we got obama to start with...

This is just another lib-rag trying to pick our candidate for us with scare tactics.

They know, and we know, and we know that they know that we are not going to turn out for another RINO like McRomney. THAT will be what gives obama the seat back.

If the GOP wants the White House back, they'd better put a fighter with a will of iron in that seat, or millions of Americans mostly disgusted with the elite GOP are going to sit it out in 2012.

The best rule of thumb is, if a newspaper pushes you one way, go the other; if a newspaper "endorses" a conservative candidate, THAT is the one they want because they figure it will help obama win.

If barack obama - or one of his kindred get the White House for 4 more years, go ahead and make you appointment to meet with the death panels...'cause that's where we'll be going.

Anyone could have beaten George “Read my lips” Bush.

Thinking back I think the only person the republicans ever nominated worth a damn was Ronald Reagan. And they screwed that up the first time and went with Ford.

See my tagline.

Poppy Bush only won the first time because of Reagan’s coattails. He sold himself as Reagan II. His son was sold to us especially by G Schultz as Reagan II.

Old Ma Barker Bush does not like Palin but Clinton is a like a son. WTF?!?
