The crop of 2012 Republican presidential candidates is about to expand, adding faces to one of the most varied—and muddled—GOP fields in decades.
The lineup currently lacks a clear favorite to stir the GOP base, to the dismay of many in the party.
A Gallup poll released Friday underscored an awkward situation facing the GOP. Two men who may not even run—Mike Huckabee and Donald Trump—tied for first among Republicans surveyed, with a scant 16% support apiece, while the presumed GOP favorite, Mitt Romney, came in second at 13%.
The last GOP nominee to score under 20% in a Gallup poll at this stage prior to an election was Barry Goldwater in 1964.
"The Republican field is taking shape, but right now, there is no one that excites me," said Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina, where the first-in-the-South primary has proved pivotal for many GOP nominees. Like many in the party, Gov. Haley said she is still hoping an unexpected name jumps in to shake things up. "I love surprises," she said.
Jim Jordan, a Democratic strategist, said the GOP field was remarkable for having "no center of gravity, no front-runner, no establishment choice, and no premium at all being put on electability." Unless that changes by Labor Day, he said, "there's going to be real panic in respectable Republican circles."

I've been noticing that for quite some time now. Again, what Sarah Palin's going to have to do is come out with a tough speech against the establishment:
"When I move into the White House my attorney general will initiate a thorough and complete investigation in order to be fair to not only the American people but also to President Obama who rightfully deserves to be acknowledged as a legitimate former President. It is also important to clarify to the American people that Barack Obama was indeed eligible and was the legitimate President of these United States.
However, if by some chance the accusations turn out to be correct, there is a promise to the American people that anybody in Congress whether they be republican or democrat will be legally held accountable and justice will be served for any wrong doing and illegal activity. Let that be a warning to the leaders of Congress who have taken the oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America."
The first candidate with this speech will start to rise in the polls
And then from here hit Obama hard on the political issues from out unnecessary involvement in Libya, gas prices, jobs, debt and only touch very little on the eligibility issue. The first speech should be enough.

Its a bit early in the political season, especially for the short attention spans these days. Let the Huckabee’s, Romney’s, Pawlenty’s, Giuliani’s, Gingrichi’s and Trumpi’s get in now and express their plain, ordinary, boring, fake, phoney selves. It sets a nice backdrop for contrast with the brighter and more interesting stars to come. We don’t want anyone to peak too soon. There’s plenty of time for the bright lights to get in and start shining.
As for Alan West, I like him alot but its too soon for him. He’s a future superstar just like Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio. They need some seasoning before they are ready for the big stage. Better to let them marinate a while.

I'm getting real tired of this kind of snubbing of Palin, especially from the Wall Street Journal, which is usually pro-Republican. I guess Sarah Palin just isn't the 'right kind of Republican' for that crowd. She isn't an attorney, didn't graduate from an ivy league university, doesn't live in a major city, hunts and fishes and has a Down's Syndrome child that she isn't ashamed of. How tacky - to the country club crowd, anyway. Screw them and their hand-picked, oh-so-moderate, polished, shallow presidential wannabes. I'll take authentic, honest, conservative Sarah Palin. They can have Huckabee and Romney.
I think a West/Palin ticket, or Palin/West, would unite the conservatives and independents like none other. As opposed to the pedigreed, elitist, blue-bloods the media are bound and determined to saddle the GOP with yet again, a conservative populist ticket would actually win...big time. Ryan, Bachmann and/or DeMint would be good candidates as well, IMNSHO.

I’m fully convinced that Palin will slaughter Obama, if she makes it through the primary process, which is designed to allow the media to choose the candidates, but for Trump, it would be doubtful.
Trump has no foundation, no anchor. His life has been that of a statist/globalist elitist, and his venture into populist conservative politics is not that of a strong, unwavering stalwart, but that of a weather vane opportunist.
The media that are allowing him to proceed in the primaries will slaughter him in the general election, while they would never be able to do that with Palin and her lifetime commitment to her foundational positions.
