Conservatives did drag themselves to vote in the primaries, and they split their votes among several different candidates. Mitt got a plurality of primary votes, not a majority. In order to beat the establishment conservatives need to find a common candidate early so he can build momentum and raise a competitive campaign fund. That’s going to be even harder with the GOP-e working to make it tougher for a grassroots conservative to come from behind. Sarah should have decided not to run by early summer 2011. By her own admission, the latest practical date was August or September, but she waited until October, while hinting all along that she would be running a “different kind of campaign”, which turned out to be no campaign.
