6 Reasons Why Malloy Did Better In 2014
The Hartford Courant ^ | November 6, 2014 | Stephen Busemeyer and Dan Haar

The battleground was different in 2010, when Dannel P. Malloy and Tom Foley first fought to become governor.

Linda McMahon and Richard Blumenthal were slugging it out in a high-finance senate race that drew a lot of attention. The economy was sputtering badly. Tom Foley's running mate was popular Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton. Sandy Hook -- and the gun control legislation that came out of it -- was more than two years away.

Sadly, CT went against the grain in this election. Wealthier Farmington Valley areas, including Avon and Simsbury, and the coastal/Fairfield wealthier towns, showed a reduced turnout for Foley (check the absolute numbers: in Avon, Malloy had the exact same number of votes as in 2014, but Foley lost about 1500!), giving Malloy an increased percentage of the vote. The reason being that the economy of these areas disproportionately improved (likely, stock market and insurance industry driven — Obamacare has been good to them) relative to other areas of the state. Of course, the cheating in New Haven, Bridgeport and Hartford was kept at its same level. Finally, the GOP couldn’t have put forward a blander, more GOP-establishment, country club individual than Foley. A terrible candidate.

Simple equation for CT: find a Allen West/Mia Love/Tim Scott or Susanna Martinez/Marco Rubio-like Republican and they easily win an election like this one. I believe this is a viable pathway to GOP success long term in deep Blue states. White silver spoon oppressors need not apply. The GOP in CT truly is the Stupid Party.

Sum total: Malloy wins 50-48. Socialism stays.

Ditto for Scott Brown in New Humpsires even though that race was competitive. Run as a true passionate conservative even in a blue state and let the chips fall where they may. Blue states are ideal to run and demonstrate a viable, dinstinct alternative to lieberalism. Give the people a real contrast in ideals and candidates.

The one good thing about the democrat loss in DC is that Connecticut will have been kicked to the curb politic speaking.Governor Malloy probably won’t be getting much federl help in the next four years and our losing Reps will be of NO help.

They will be powerless.

That’s the only good I see that came out of the election Tuesday.

Connecticut deserves the government it voted for.
