How Nikki Haley saved the GOP
The Week ^ | june 23, 2015 | Edward Morrissey

"We are not going to allow this symbol to divide us any longer," South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) said Monday afternoon, in a televised address to the nation, of the soon-to-be-retired Confederate flag that has flown on the state capitol grounds for decades. And so long as GOP state legislators follow their governor and their party, after 150 years, South Carolina will no longer endorse the Confederate battle flag, but will consign it to a museum to recognize, as Haley emphasized in her address, its place in the state's history.

"We are not going to allow this symbol to divide us any longer," South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) said Monday afternoon

You don't suppose she really believes that a symbol is the cause of the division that threatens us, do you?

Nikki Haley is just trying to appease the Democrats who created this false issue.

Nikki how does it feel to sell out your state to suck up to northeast liberals?

Unless Nikki Haley is divine in nature, I’m not sure how she would save that which is dead.

Did I just get Semmens’d and didn’t realize it.

As far as I’m concerned, she can go suck a bag of d!cks.

(I ought to ask for my campaign donation back.)

“I hope that, by removing the flag, we can take another step towards healing and recognition,” Haley said in her speech, “and a sign that South Carolina is moving forward.” Perhaps the nation can as well.”

Republicans can be such fools. Does anyone actually believe anything she has said to rationalize her caving in to the fury created by the media?

Nimrata Nikki Randhawa Haley(born January 20, 1972)is an American politician and the 116th and current Governor of South Carolina. She is currently serving in her second term. A member of the Republican Party, Haley represented Lexington County in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2005 to 2010. A virtual unknown when she entered the 2010 gubernatorial race, Haley gained endorsements for the Republican nomination from former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, and the Tea Party movement.

Disrespect of Southern/American heritage is expected from Nimrata Nikki Randhawa Haley, a.k.a. Nikki Haley, a child of Indian Sikh parents.

It became the symbol of “The Lost Cause” more than a century ago.

Walking by the symbol of Christianity, (the cross) I wonder if that’s the next divisive symbol to made an issue of contention.

I suspect Gov. Haley could care less one way or another, however, the media in their non-stop “white devil” theme (just watch CNN to see this), turned this whole sad story about a POS murderer into a hate GOP story. Its insane. And too many people in the GOP let them do it.

It's only a matter of time and, depending on the upcoming SCOTUS ruling, I'd say likely sooner than later.

The GOP has WAAAAAY bigger problems than a flag which people north of the Mason-Dixon line frankly don’t even think about all that often.

Unfortunately, doing this in response to irrational blame of the flag does not show leadership.

If she had done this on her own, without the instigation, that would have been leadership.

Smart move by gov Haley to remove any chance of Riots in SC like in other states such as Maryland, Missouri, Florida, etc. which is exploited by MSM to help democrats. This move is purely symbolic anyways. One flag is all we need, the Old Glory which is stripes and stars for ever. A flag with history 150 years old signifying divisions belongs in the Museum, not on government buildings.

The Christian cross is a separate issue. I don’t think there are many government buildings topped by the cross, so it is a non-issue. I have seen no signs or movement whatsoever to ban the holy cross in non-government properties.

Similarly, the confederate flag is perfectly legal to display on private properties.

Nikki is wonderful, a great governor, fearless and decisive. I support her on this although I am descended from them old Confederates.

Part of that “heritage” is racial segregation and “white man’s Government. Like it or not, race is now the Democratic equivalent of the “Bloody Shirt” which was used by Republicans against northern Democratic politicians up until the time of the Spanish-American War.

As far as the flag is concerned, I think that Haley is right to have taken it down.
