The flamboyant developer made his offer in a Dear Ed letter to Mayor Koch dated May 28. For many years I have watched with amazement as New York City repeatedly failed on its promises to complete and open the Wollman Skating Rink, he wrote. Should Take No More Than 4 Months
During this six-year period, he said, I have constructed major hotels, apartment buildings and, in 26 months, Trump Tower, a highly sophisticated and complex mixed-use building containing shopping, offices and apartments. Building the Wollman Skating Rink, which essentially involves the pouring of a concrete slab, should take no more than four months time. Calling it unacceptable that the city now wants another two years to rebuild Wollman, Mr. Trump offered to pay for the construction of a new rink, lease it from the city at a fair market rental and then run it. To all of New Yorks delight, Trump finished the job a month ahead of schedule.

30 years ago with real hair? Otherwise he hasn’t changed much.
Funny, his hair looks the same today as it does in that picture. Anything else?
Nooooooo...I am so peeved at your silly statement, Ed.
That is not a hairpiece. It is Donald’s own hair, and he looked real good thirty years ago.
Trump is a man of action.
On one of the TV appearances, the host asked Trump if it was his real hair. Trump had the host check it out and it was determined it was his real hair. I am pretty sure I saw that live, but it was a while back. Can’t recall which show.
Why focus on his hair?
Shouldn’t we be discussing the point of the article? E.g., Trump’s actions when he saw a problem and worked to fix it.
I saw that live recently, I think it was Megyn Kelly, and she pulled his hair back. It’s his real hair. And it’s not a comb over, his hair line is about 2 inches above his eyebrows. I guess it’s just weird looking hair, but it’;s all his.
This story about the skating rink is typical Trump. Get it done, on schedule or before, and do it right. In this case, a month ahead of schedule. 6 years for the city, 3 months for Trump...that’s the difference between bureaucrats and businessmen.
I saw the same thing in Houston in the 70’s. I 10 was built and in use for many years, they decided to rebuild a section of it between Baytown and Houston. I’ve seen 50 miles of interstate finished in a couple of years. This 10 mile section went through a dozen contractors, and when I left Houston it had been in progress for 10 years. went back 2 years later, still under construction.
I think what happened was they went through a succession of contractors who would run way over schedule and over budget, fire them and get another who would do the same thing. I’m not sure if it ever got finished, but I know of at least 15 years that 10 mile section of road was constantly under construction. And bureaucrats let it happen...
Bureaucrats are spending someone else’s money, so what...the businessman like Trump is trying to make money, that means get it done and done quick.
Some are not like that, they’ve figured out how to bilk the system for loads of cash then split. My guess is that’s why this skating rink didn’t get finished for 6 years. Which is why it should be done in a different manner. Get it done, show us a finished project, on time and on budget, THEN you get your money.
