Donald Trump is so popular he's virtually guaranteed to reach the finals in the race for the 2016 GOP nomination, says conservative pundit Patrick J. Buchanan, who served as senior adviser to Presidents Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford.
"He is so strong now that unless there's something really disqualifying and explosive, Trump virtually is guaranteed to be the outsider, insurgent candidate going into the semi-finals and the finals for the Republican nomination right now," Buchanan said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
"I can't recall an insurgent candidate or who was this strong at this point ever since say Ronald Reagan and he was even partly an establishment conservative candidate.
"Trump really moves toward the end of the finals here, or the semi-finals easily when we get to January, unless something happens."
Buchanan, who sought Republican presidential nomination in 1992 and 1996, acknowledged that some people are calling the billionaire developer "the Pat Buchanan of our time," a reference to the fact of both began as underdog candidates.
"Of course we're very different men and we've had different experiences, different careers and different philosophies in the past," Buchanan said....

Patriot Trump is nothing like Buchanan.
Paging the “Trump will flame out” crowd....
In before you-know-who...
Hope he’s right.
Hope Trump gets more into less government, more free market economy.
The longer this goes on, the more apparent its going to be that the Republicans cannot win without Trump. Trump’s voting block will not accept a RINO nominee and just stay home. It will be interesting to see whether the establishment will burn the party down with this nonsense or will they begin to realign themselves with Trump. Trump has already shown that he is gracious to those who make peace with him. We’ll see if the establishment comes to its senses. Because if they unfairly shut Trump out, they cease to be a power in American politics.
Love it.
Trump is doing for the GOPe what they could not do for themselves.
They are calling him now, guaranteed
The GOP, party of liars and traitors to the US Constitution,
does not have any power in America ... except
the power to lie, and cheat, and make Laws EXEMPT
for themselves, and lie, and lie, and did I mention, LIE.
Nice article. I hope Trump and Cruz are the last men standing and team up for the most formidable ticket in my lifetime.
Why the vitriol? I’m a conservative independent anyway. I gave up on Republican party after they forced Romney down our throats.
The Republican party is still a political apparatus in this country. It will either be transformed or it will die. It used to look like it would be a slow death. But Trump is a pivotal moment. If they give him the shaft, the Republican Party will die almost overnight. If they accept him and get behind him, it will transform. Hopefully for the better.
Buchanan gets it.
I’m voting for Cruz in March.
If Trump is the nominee, I’ll hold my nose because he’s not a conservative, but at least he won’t be inviting the rest of Mexico and Central America in.
The candidates who are on the side of the citizens are few.

I think Trump can get the nomination if he just stays out of the weeds and somewhat prepares for the next debate. He can’t look like a freetard in the debates no matter what his numbers are.
Hope Trump gets more into less government, more free market economy.

Like many people here, I have followed Trump off and on for at least 20 or more years.
I like Trump. I think he is a great businessman and seems to have great leadership skills. But I must admit that I feel uncomfortable with some things he says.
Still, I think that if I needed a smart person to handle a small or a big project---construction or non-construction---I would like to find someone smart like Trump to handle it, because I would be pretty sure that it would get done the right way.
But this is what fascinates me most about Trump up to know during this campaign season: He seems to have so much energy.
For instance, he appears on a tv show in the morning, and then turns around and appears on another show at night the same day. Then the next day, he flies to another city to give a speech. Amazing.
Even more amazing, he seems ready to answer all the questions he is asked, and he seems to enjoy answering them.
On top of going on all those tv shows, he still must find time to keep an eye on all his businesses.
Trump also seems easily approachable. he seems like a person who is easy to talk to. That is, if I approached Trump and was polite to him, I have the feeling that he would stop for a few minutes and talk to me, a perfect stranger.
NOTE: I understand that he was a pretty good athlete in high school. Maybe all those workouts in high school helped prepare him physically and mentally for this tough campaign season.
He cant look like a freetard in the debates no matter what his numbers are.
My sentiments also pretty much.
I think Trump is about kicking the hell out of political correctness as he is about anything. It’s OK for men to be men. Men, be men. Don’t get PW’d. Trump may end up being more about culture than politics which may be what we need now.
He’s not on point with his economic proposals IMO, possibly some social issues, but he’s close enough and good with other stuff like defense that I’m rooting for him because he is so anti-establishment, anti- political, and anti-bleeding-heart-politically correct.
