Nevada: The anti-Trump forces want Cruz to help Rubio, but that's unlikely
The South Jersey Times ^ | February 23, 2016 | Paul Mulshine

This is already the most fascinating Republican presidential primary campaign since the fabled Ford-Reagan fight of 1976,

But at the moment it looks like it won't turn out as well from the establishment's perspective.

Back then, the establishment managed to put their candidate over the top against his right-wing challenger.

That's not likely to happen this year.

That's because the Ford-Reagan race was essentially a two-man race.

But the Trump-Rubio-Cruz race has three men in it.

One is likely to keep getting around a third of the vote while the other two split up most of the remainder.

The hope for the establishment is that Ted Cruz will drop out and let Marco Rubio have a one-on-one shot against Donald Trump.

That's not likely, at least not to Steve Lonegan.

Lonegan, the conservative who lost a close battle to Chris Christie in the 2009 gubernatorial primary, has been out in Nevada for the past couple of weeks organizing the Cruz campaign.....

I want the wall.

I want someone to stand up for workers.

I want someone to attempt to roll back the clock on illegal immigrants.

That’s all.

One thing I want to say ... Ted Cruz is not going to be the nominee. No way, no how. Not electable.

Except this time the establishment is right about Trump. Voters should think and not just vote out of blind anger and irrationality. Either Trump will lose to Hillary or he'll win and go back to his basic liberal inclinations. I bet Trump would nominate his partial birth abortion sister for SCOTUS instead of Ted Cruz.

Trump cultists are determined to prove they are as stupid as the rest of the electorate were when they voted for Obama twice. Congratulations!

And FReepers shouldn't make stupid and condescending assumptions about fellow FReepers.

Personally, I’d like to see Cruz make his bones as AG before moving up to SCOTUS There’s hundreds of people, if not a whole lot more, in DC, that need to answer for their crimes against this country.

Starting with Hillary.

Cruz would be just the guy to do it.

My choice is Rubio..then Trump..then Cruz . I will vote for the nominee.

This is bigger then the three of them. We cannot allow the dems to stack the Supreme Court. That would be game over.

Why should Cruz help Rubio? Cruz won Iowa. Where did Rubio win? I forget.

If Bernie Sanders is on the ticket for the other side, I will vote for Trump even if I don't like him. As a member of the tribe myself, I do not want Jews tainted with Communism forever and that is what a Bernie Sanders presidency would do.

I would rather the Austrian economic tradition of Ludwig von Mises (he was Jewish) be remembered instead of Sanders.

Ben Shapiro predicted that since Rubio and Cruz won’t drop out, Trump will be the nominee.

I am not voting for Trump or Rubio, period. If Bernie wins, it is the fault of those who voted for him and those who gave non conservative alternatives. Own it.

Interesting thing I am noticing on the exit polls: Voters know Rubio is really pro-amnesty. That’s why they are voting for him. I guarantee you, those people will not vote Trump. Neither will similar feeling leftists. Trump will get pro-wall liberals and angry bully-seeking republicans. Will it be enough? I doubt it, but who knows.

I predict the “free stuff” message will win against the “If you disagree with me you’re an idiot” message.

Reagan has some words for the Conservative Pharisees.

By Ronald Reagan in his autobiography An American Life

“When I began entering into the give and take of legislative bargaining in Sacramento, a lot of the most radical conservatives who had supported me during the election didn’t like it. “Compromise” was a dirty word to them and they wouldn’t face the fact that we couldn’t get all of what we wanted today. They wanted all or nothing and they wanted it all at once. If you don’t get it all, some said, don’t take anything. I’d learned while negotiating union contracts that you seldom got everything you asked for. And I agreed with FDR, who said in 1933: “I have no expectations of making a hit every time I come to bat. What I seek is the highest possible batting average.” If you got seventy-five or eighty percent of what you were asking for, I say, you take it and fight for the rest later, and that’s what I told these radical conservatives who never got used to it

Awesome excerpt. Reagan was all about GTD (getting things done), not about being a pure conservative nor a consistent conservative.

With Trump I would get NAYBE 10 percent. NAYBE. And that 10 percent would come at a price of 100% future loss. No thank you. Pass. Just remember you own it.

I have been trying to decide who I dislike more, Trump or Rubio. It is a tough call.
