The race for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination is now open
The Washington Post's Politics ^ | November 27, 2016 | Chris Cillizza

By Election Day, ambitious Democrats had already resigned themselves to an eight-year wait for their chance in the national spotlight. Hillary Clinton was an overwhelming favorite against Donald Trump and, assuming she won, running a primary challenge against her in four years would be a fool’s errand.

Then Clinton lost.

Although this most stunning upset in modern presidential history has produced (and will produce) a thousand aftershocks, one of the most unlikely and important is that the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 is now open.

That opening is made all the more remarkable by the fact that there is simply no logical heir (or even heirs) to President Obama or Clinton — no obvious candidate waiting in the wings to step forward and rebuild the party. Vice President Biden appears to have decided that he is done running for office. As a two-time loser, Clinton is done, too. And after that, the bench is, well, pretty thin.

Politics, of course, abhors a vacuum. So candidates will run. Here is a look at who they might be:

Sen. Cory Booker: Booker has been a national figure since the mid-2000s, when he was elected mayor of Newark. His résumé — football at Stanford University, a Rhodes scholarship — is impressive, and many Democrats see the young (he’s 47), charismatic, African American U.S. senator from New Jersey as the second coming of Obama. But the campaign that Booker ran for the Senate in 2013 was more competitive than it should have been largely because of his shaky performance. He may start the 2020 race as the front-runner, but he still has lots of questions that need answering....

I agree...She and her handlers know just what her ‘real’ health issue is...

I believe Trump and staff also know what it is...

now the public needs to know...

Cory isn't married ( that's something that someone running for president, hasn't happened since 1952 and Adlai was divorced; not to mention the fact that he lost...TWICE to Ike ! )and the ONLY unmarried president was James Buchanan.

He is not all that well liked in Jersey ( not even by the blacks), and after Obama, I doubt that the blacks will be impressed by him, just because3 he is a "high yeller".

Neither of the Castro boys, from Texas are worth a damn and neither of them can speak Spanish. Their never married mother is one of the founders of La Raza...which won't go down well with as many people, whom the Dems might suppose.

The fact is, the Dem bench stinks, with no new "young Turks" worth a damn coming up.

How was she able to run for president at her age, kept up with all the debates, etc if she is so weak?

I mean...most people would have killed themselves if they thought they had an 80% chance of winning only to end up losing states that no Dem ever lost since the 80’s and she is still around!

She’ll be far too old, in 2020 and the whole FAKE INDIAN thing would kill her off so fast, she’ll drop dead.

They’re running out of full fledged Marxists to run except for batshit crazy Elizabeth Warren, that Murray thingy senator, and, oh, Comrade Crook Hillary, again. Bernie Sanders will be spending his last days luxuriating and urinating in his DEPENDS at his expensive lakesite vacation home in Vermont.

I hope the “Great Outdoors” bear pays him a visit at dinner time. Bon appetite mon ami.

Corey Booker. Okay he’s a nice guy but Camden, and Newark, and Trenton are still crime cesspools and citadels of ignorance. Let him run for governor and see what it feels like to face multiple shitholes as the same time.

If the Dems want a real Red, let them run Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich). He’s been one for over 50 years and knows how to wreck a country from within.

“Comrades of the Democrat Party unite. You have nothing to lose except the next election”.

She was tanked up on various drugs for her infrequent public appearances. Trump was doing three one-hour speeches a day, six a day toward the end. She was doing two a week, ten-minutes each. Resting up the rest of the time.
