That the people of AZ keep returning this daft old man to the Senate is what is concerning.

“...a prominent military leader...”

If this was a prominent military leader appointed by Obama, it was nothing more than a “perfumed prince” (thank you, David Hackworth)

Corrupted incumbents can often cobble together a majority between crony pubbies and rats.

Your remark/question has been asked a thousand times over on FR for the past decade and more.

The short answer is: democrat crossovers in primaries.

McCain dumped wife, moved to AZ, married younger woman with inheritance, took Goldwater’s seat, so he is GOP but not by belief.

McCain is Uniparty.

McCain uses democrat crossovers and financial war chest to eliminate primary opponents.

AZ is red state; voters will not elect democrat for US Senate. So when McCain wins AZ GOP senate primary, AZ voters have nowhere else to go.

It’s a machine. Power players get taken care of and McCain keeps getting reelected.

Good news is he is 80 years old and won’t be around for much longer.

It is possible that President Trump can get him to play ball for our side.
