A third Senate Democrat has announced his intention to vote for Judge Neil Gorsuch, President Trump's Supreme Court nominee.
"After meeting with Judge Gorsuch, conducting a thorough review of his record, and closely following his hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, I believe that he is a qualified jurist who will base his decisions on his understanding of the law and is well-respected among his peers," Indiana Sen. Joe Donnelly said in a statement.
Donnelly joins Democratic colleagues Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, who both pledged last month to vote to confirm Gorsuch, slated to take the seat held by Justice Antonin Scalia, who died in February 2016.
Both Donnelly and Heitkamp bemoaned the fact that Judge Merrick Garland, President Obama's nominee to replace Scalia, never got an up-or-down vote.
"I was deeply disappointed by the way the most recent Supreme Court nominee, Judge Garland, was treated by the Senate, but as Senator, I can only vote on the nominee that comes to the Senate floor," Donnelley said....

I still don’t think the demented dems will be fool enough to filibuster.
Still 5 short thank goodness.
This is the perfect time to kill the filibuster once and for all.
Gosh, Chuck Schumer. Your cunning plan isn’t working out so well, is it?
Wait until you’re crushed in 2018. It’ll be great in 2019.
Three dems? Sounds like we have bipartisan support!
Here is what will happen, soon a few more Dems will come out to OK, then when the Dems see it is lost they’ll vote 80 to 20. Watch. Do you see how partisan we are?
Be careful what you wish for. That would work against us as well.
Probably right.
Just a show for their looney base most likely.
But then again, they are infected with a fatal case of Trump Derangement Syndrome so who knows.
As if Republicans would filibuster a Dem nominee. May as well stack the court while we can.
Heads we win. Tails they lose.
Well...I have to agree with you based on our recent confirmation of the wise latina and kagan. sheesh.
At least we didn’t let Obama appoint this last guy.
What they really would like is some reason to start impeachment procedings, not that they could succeed, but to enable them to use that as an excuse to hold up all nominations President Trump might make.
‘rats at risk for reelection in Trump country starting to fall in line....
Better to have the Dems cave, than to change the last rule.
Let the NUKE go off so we can get a real hitter in there next time.I have misgivings aboutGorsuch because he goes to a horrible “Church” in Boulder Colorado. The liberal cesspool of the entire state.
The turtle astounded me holding firm on Garland.
In retrospect, it was a brilliant move that without which we may well be here complaining about Hillary completing the destruction of America.
We can always change it later. As long as its in play we have leverage.
Yup - if Republicans can get corporate tax reform and some regulatory reform passed. ACA repeal would be a bonus.
Democrat senators up for reelection in 2018 from states won big by Trump:
Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.)
Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.)
Jon Tester (D-Mont.)
Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.)
Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.)
Fine with me. You still need a house majority, presidential signature and the USSC to approve in addition to senate majority. No reason for a filibuster IMO - at least not how its currently used. Using it to delay something for 2,3 or 4 days to be discussed in more detail is one thing. To kill legislature or nominees altogether is silly, IMO.
