Senator Bernie Sanders has said it is likely he would have beaten Donald Trump in the 2016 election, but that it doesnt matter now that Mr Trump is president.
He was speaking on Showtimes The Circus when he was asked about populism in the US and how Mr Trump had tapped into it to win.
What I recognised was pain. All over this country people are hurting and they are hurting very badly. Trump understood that, by the way, and that's why he said, 'The whole system sucks. I'm going to blow it up, Mr Sanders said.
Mr Sanders has been an outspoken critic of the president's policy on the environment, healthcare, the economy, and a host of other issues.
Mr Sanders campaign run garnered millions of supporters however he ultimately lost the Democratic Partys nomination to Hillary Clinton....

tragically - Bernie is correct.
thankfully Hillary cheated
I used to pull whatever was left of my hair out when people wanted hillary indicted before the election.
WAY self centered. and Short Sighted.
He COULD have beaten Trump. Not saying definitely. But a better chance than the witch.
And I do believe he beat hillary in the primaries.
And I HATE his guts :)
But he got a vacation home on a lake as a going away prize.
>tragically - Bernie is correct.
I like to troll the left with this idea, but it’s not true. Trump had to be restrained on his attacks on Hillary because she’s a woman and people naturally get upset about women being attacked. Bernie on the other hand is a weak old socialist who got spanked on life national TV by BLM. Trump would have ripped him to pieces.
No. I don’t think so. But if he wants to live in that dreamscape he’s made for himself...
no way....a conscientious objector as commander in chief??..an avowed communist?..pornographer?...Trump would have torched his old ugly ass. Hillary just kind of ignored him..he hasn’t been truly vetted. He says the same 3 things over and over...weird old hippie.
exactly right...
Arrogance is a common trait of socialist do gooders.
I agree that the old commie would have ran much better than the old lying sell-out HilLIARy. But to win I think the D’s need to break free from their SorozNazi-Moslem Brotherhood-Saudi controllers and run a far more appealing ( and less threatening to American security) person. I do not know who that might be now since the D’s don’t have any prominent figures that could win But it’s a long time to 2020
I think Bernie would have made this an entirely different race. Subtract the health issues of Hillary, and the e-mail server fiasco. Bernie would have had the energy required in the final month to make 50 extra campaign stops (something Hillary was very limited in doing). Bernie would have had a entirely different pick as VP, which might have helped.
The negative though is that Bernie was promising tons of things that would have required an enormous tax burden on the public. The banks and Wall Street would have been entirely negative about Bernie.
I think the polls would have been more accurate...with Trump leading by one or two percent, and likely winning by 5-percent. The Electoral College....basically the same.
The better question to ask...what if Bernie had never run at all, and Hillary had no competition throughout the whole primary?
>The better question to ask...what if Bernie had never run at all, and Hillary had no competition throughout the whole primary?
With the Bruising primary Trump had? Probably a Hillary win. Trump’s biggest weakness was always the lack of full support from the GOP. I’ve never seen a party so dedicated to screwing themselves over.
Poor Bernie....”I could have, I should have, I would have” beaten Donald J. Trump!!! Hey, Bernie.....Could have, Would have & Should have don’t count in the real world. Sorry, Deadbeat, loser!!!
Impossible to say, of course, that election would have had much different dynamics. But I suspect that Bernie Sanders would have lost worse than Hillary, his appeal was mostly to the far left and he would not have had the support of some of the powerful well-heeled establishment people who kept the tottering Clinton campaign from collapsing under the weight of its inherent absurdity.
I don’t think there would have been the mid-October diversion into Trump’s sex-related comments and the innuendo (largely unproven), Sanders would not have been given those openings, and frankly I don’t think he would have been that interested in pursuing it.
We will never know, but I suspect Trump would have won a few more states and the popular vote (please don’t bombard me with the standard but he did anyway stuff, I don’t have any way of investigating that, and it may be right).
Smoke sone more weed Bernie
Agreed. If the Clintoon machine hadn’t pulled out all the stops and begged, borrowed, stole and connived to both sabotage him as well as buy Shrillary’s nomination, it would have been a nail biter. A big part of why she lost is many liberals very quietly view her as a cold fish and/or a has-been. Bernie had ALL his crowds cheering...especially the youngest and stupidest. I mean big time.
Sanders would have slaughtered Trump. Miiennials that stayed home would have come out in droves. He would have taken all the Hillary states and the ones Trump barely won (FL, NC, OH, IA, MI, WI, PA).
We should not lie to ourselves. There are far more Socialists/Liberals in this country. Hillary just missed in 2016. In 2020 millions of 14 to 17 year olds in 2016 will be voting and you can bet they will put someone like Elizabeth Warren over the top.
2016 was just a reprieve. They country is still on a hard march to the far left. That is why Trumps approval ratings remain very low.
GENIUS Professor said TRUMP would be POTUS in February of 2016 & said Sanders would lose to TRUMP worse than Hillary!
