Watching this, I keep thinking of that Hillary clip from 2014 that made the rounds a few weeks ago in which she said “Just because your child gets across the border, that doesn’t mean the child gets to stay.” Conservatives pointed to that as proof that even the reigning Democratic nominee opposes a DREAM amnesty, but huffy lefties complained that Clinton was being taken out of context. She was referring to children who had *recently* crossed the border, they said, not to children who were brought here years ago and had built a life in America. Obviously Democrats don’t support opening the borders to let any child in whose parents want them to come.
But they do support that, in principle. If that’s not the takeaway from Pelosi’s shpiel here, what is? DREAM kids have contributed much to America, she notes, therefore it’s wonderful that their parents broke the law in bringing them here. (Pause here to reflect on the Democratic leader in the House openly praising illegal immigration as “great.”) Unless she has evidence that child illegals crossing the border today would contribute less than current DACA enrollees, there’s no obvious reason by her logic why the practice shouldn’t be allowed to continue. Which, in fact, is what a lot of Democrats do want, including the lovely people who shut down her press conference a few days ago and whom she won’t criticize here except in the gentlest, most politic terms.
In fact, the point of this grand pander is to assure DREAMers that Democrats won’t stop with amnestizing them but will use a deal with Trump as a “first step” towards amnestizing the heroic moms and dads who dragged them across the border in the first place. It’s chain migration 101, in the same spirit as the executive amnesty Hillary proposed last year in which she promised to legalize the parents of DREAMers if elected. If you’re a border hawk who’s skeptical of the deal being used as a building block to a much bigger amnesty eventually, if not during Trump’s term then during the next Democratic president’s, this is Pelosi telling you you’re right to be. It’s a hugely damaging clip in terms of handing nationalists a weapon with which to oppose a compromise. But she has her own base to please. This’ll please them.

The convoluted thinking of an uber leftist. Breaking our laws is as natural and normal to them as breathing and they wonder why they are so despised by those without worms in their heads; aka right wingers.
No Fancy Nancy; there’s nothing good about the illegals bringing their illegal kids here. Nothing at all.
Border jumping needs to be made a criminal, not just a statutory offence. Then all the sanctuary city and state officials could be charged with being accessories after the fact. Breaking and entering into a country should be treated at least as harshly as breaking and entering into a home.
It’s all about bringing in totally dependent, new democrat voters...and doing everything they can to keep these people helpless and on welfare.
If those immigrants were more likely to vote republican the democrats would have long ago passed laws allowing them to be shot on sight.

There is something quite sinister about this statement, above the usual illegal amnesty that Democrats always push.
It strikes me more like Pelosi is saying that the US should appropriate the children of other nations for our own purposes. As in, we don’t have children of our own, we’ll just take yours.
And, of course, despite Democrat propaganda, many of these illegals are not here for better opportunities. Some of them might have been tricked into coming by coyotes who sold them into slavery (aka human trafficking). Others are opportunists who use the lax border enforcement to traffic heroin and other drugs. We don’t need the slaves or drug lords, and those who genuinely want a better opportunity can apply for a visa at the embassy. And I think I should point out that they have plenty of opportunities in Mexico, which actually does have schools and good universities. In fact, the National Autonomous University of Mexico is one of the top universities in the world.

I agree. If illegal entry into the US were itself made a felony offense, we wouldn't hear all of this mealy-mouthed talk about "only deporting the criminal illegals, not the law-abiding ones." By definition, nobody who is here illegally is "law abiding."

There are a lot of good people drawn from their homes in Mexico to seek a new life in the US. People with initiative, dedication, common sense, and adventurous spirits. Not everyone is like that. The people that stay behind in their cities & villages may get a little extra money sent back to them, but I wonder if they’re not the best the country of Mexico had to offer. They’re likely beset with problems that they can’t solve, like drug lords and corrupt politicians; many of the people among them who had the capacity to address the issues have gone, lured away.
The policies of the DemonicRats that lure them here to the US are evil: they encourage the newcomers to break laws getting here, break laws to vote here, and they cause the places the newcomers came from to suffer and decay. The neighborhoods in Mexico are decimated of talent, while the leeches of their society pester them for a cut of any remittances sent back.
Mexico is made to suffer, and the US is made to suffer: corrupted voting rolls, tradesmen’s wages adapting to the new regime (workers willing live in three & four income households), and a great many entry level worker’s from this country unable to compete - relegated to the family basement into their 30’s.
