Bernie Sanders and the missed opportunity
The Toronto Star ^ | November 13, 2017 | Brian Topp

In a normal country, Bernie Sanders would have been the Democratic nominee in the 2016 election - and Hillary Clinton would have been his Republican rival.

Introduced by Premier Kathleen Wynne and thanked by former NDP Leader Ed Broadbent, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders concluded his visit to Ontario last month with a well-received speech at Convocation Hall at the University of Toronto.

In that speech, he reviewed some familiar ideas.

Like the idea that people should have access to health care and pharmaceuticals based on their clinical needs, and not based on how much money is in their wallet.

Like the idea that all children and young people should have access to public education.

Like the idea that elections should be held on the basis of one citizen one vote, instead of being bought by billionaires and corporations.

Like the idea that gay people should not be humiliated and disrespected because of who they love.

Like the idea that the environment matters, really.

These ideas — outlined in the simplest and most straight-forward terms in Senator Sanders's familiar speaking-in-a-wind-tunnel style — remind any Canadian who is not aligned with our own increasingly extremist and Americanized Conservative parties what a strange pass conservatism has led the United States into.....

Hillary would be a Republican?

Well, considering McCain and Linsead Graham et al., the author is probably correct.

Looking at some of the other articles, this left-wing rag makes the NY Slimes and the Washington Compost look like propaganda sheets for the John Birch society.

Sanders is so lacking in character and courage that he STILL hasn’t changed his affiliation to that of the party he claims to want to represent.

Spoken like a commie troll. That’s what I love about this country. Someone tell this idiot if this were the case, then Los Angeles, and New York would decide the vote for the President every year.

That is not a normal country. That is a failed Socialist state like Venezuela.

Venezuela is simply Canada without a really rich neighbor as a trading partner. Without the United states. Canada would have failed decades ago under the first Trudeau.

Bernie Sanders has high poll approval numbers because the media will only supply pro-Bernie propaganda. Here is a small sample of the truth about Bernie. There is much more that the drive-by media ignore.

Bernie never had a job until he was elected mayor of Burlington, Vermont in his 39th year. He’s a classic freeloader.

To save money in his 1988 unsuccessful run for the US House, he designated his campaign manager as “self employed” so his campaign did not have to pay her payroll taxes. That means she had to pay them, and that is against the law.

Sanders claims he “comes from the working class” despite never having worked at anything except the feverish baloney of radical politics. He makes a big show now of supporting unions and buying American. But when he was first elected mayor of Burlington, he drove a Black Honda Accord and had for many years. Driving an American car is just for show.

In 1980, Eugene DeBerry was the Socialist Workers Party candidate for President of the United States. To get on the ballot in Vermont, DeBerry had to supply the Vermont Secretary of State a slate of three Electoral College electors, just as does every other presidential candidate. One of DeBerry’s three electors was Bernie Sanders. DeBerry, a Marxist-Leninist Trotskyite, garnered 75 votes in Vermont in 1980. Reagan carried Vermont.

Sanders attended University of Chicago in the early 1960’s (working class indeed). There he was tutored by Marxist professor Herbert Marcuse. For extracurricular credit he was mentored by Communist agitator Saul Alinsky.

He spent his 1989 honeymoon with Jane Sanders in the USSR. Good communists must visit the mother ship. You can bet your bottom dollar, Sanders was horrified when the Russian people rose up against their despotic communist dictators.

Banish the thought that this foul, nasty traitor could ever become President of the United States. God help us.
