There is a vast echo chamber, over there on the left, that cannot, will not, recognize a certain reality - that Donald Trump tapped into a vast reservoir of resentment and a feeling that the Establishment does not, in the end, have any of their interests at heart.

This echo chamber acts to refill and replenish this vast reservoir of resentment, and only if the left realizes the corner they have painted themselves into, shall they even begin to find a way to escape it, perhaps not until after the paint as dried.

Will they continue to sell their message of “command and control”, or will they gracefully accept they have indeed gone a bridge too far, and accept a lift back to dry ground?

That’s a good question, and my answer would be how can they? How can the left unpaint themselves into the corner they have painted themselves into? Without claiming anything in particular, the left has built itself upon attacking American values, and ideas that have been proven to not work. Where they control cities those cities are typically dysfunctional zones of Sheer chaos and economic depression. All that matters is for someone to look, and see for themselves. The left is dependent upon a massive propaganda effort, or reeducation effort if you would prefer the milder term, to inform people that they need to carefully consider which bathroom they go into, they need to destroy American values because all of thlose values are racist, and sexist.

So how does the left back off this effort? They would have to change their propaganda all around. There are already plenty of leftists who do not think the Democratic party is leftist enough as it is. And yet it is hard, hard left as it now exists. The problem is I see it, is that without a Trump, with a milquetoast Jeb Bush or John Kasich in a presidential race, the left absolutely could win just on handouts. But as long as there is a semi heroic figure like Trump who touts American values, and comes out winning when employing them, I see no real hope for the left. That is why I believe that the left is so hell-bent on getting rid of Trump. They need a milquetoast candidate for their propaganda to prevail.

The idea that a Democrat should’ve been a shoe-in in 2016 also reflects deep denial among mostly white liberals about the continuing potency of appeals to white supremacy in American politics.

I stopped reading right there. "White supremacy" is a myth perpetuated by the left to disguise their attack on straight white males.

“They still don’t know what happened to them. “

which means it’ll happen to ‘em again because they won’t know how to “fix” it ...

So true, it is amazing. If the economy remains solid the myth of Trump being incompetent will vanish.

The question remains can they turn out enough voters who don’t really care about America’s well-being to beat him.

"it should have been a cakewalk — the “most winnable” race ever"

It's darn near impossible for either party to hold the White House for three consecutive terms. It's only bee done once in the last 70 years (Reagan, Reagan, Bush).

A two term president has to be very accomplished, and well liked by the general public, for the voters to desire a 'third terms.

Obama was not accomplished, and was deviled by at least half the population, thus he had no coat tails going into 2016.

Only the most charismatic, dynamic Democrat could have decide gravity to beat the Republican. The Dems obviously chose the worst possible nominee in that scenario.
