A forthcoming memoir by Obama confidant Ben Rhodes includes the startling admission that the 44th presidents inner circle should have seen Hillary Clintons 2016 loss coming because President Trump was essentially using the Obama playbook to discredit her.
The New York Times published excerpts of the book, "The World As It Is," which describes outgoing President Barack Obamas shock and disbelief at Trumps election victory.
But Rhodes also seems to acknowledge that Trump used some of the same lines of attack employed by Obama during the hard-fought 2008 presidential primary against Clinton minus what Rhodes describes as the racism and misogyny.
I couldnt shake the feeling that I should have seen it coming, Rhodes writes in the book. Because when you distilled it, stripped out the racism and misogyny, wed run against Hillary eight years ago with the same message Trump had used: Shes part of a corrupt establishment that cant be trusted to bring change.(continued)

The way to defeat Hillary is/was obvious. It just takes somebody with some stones to do it, because she has the Media on her side acting as her corrupt officiators. Obama was able to strip away that advantage as his Black (foreign-born) story trumped her Female one in the world of Democrat victimology.
Trump, OTOH, had to play Mr. Outrageous to get the Media to carry his message. Play it a little “over the top” and the Media will unwittingly carry the essence of your message. It also has the benefit of throwing Ms. Unsteady on Her Feet off her game.
So, Yes, the strategy was the same, but the tactics were very different.
We’ll have a Latin president before we have another Black president. Probably a couple of female presidents before we have another Black president, too. Obama poisoned the political well — even his supporters recognize it.
Not even black. Half-black.
