He tries to give credit wherre credit is due and understands a bit better than other Democrats will admit to. But. He does not understand Donald Trump and probably no one on the Left is capable of understanding Donald Trump so he has missed most of the developments taking place. I suspect he may be right about Kim's own motivations but it took Trump to recognize them and to boost them. Obama would have simply agreed to shovel money and groceries and probably more nuclear technology at Kim and would not have tried to insert America a bit between Kim and China. Obam's treatment of Việt Nam is instructive. Obama despised any country that showed a willingness to make nice with America. He did a lot of damage to the progress of reducing repression in Việt Nam because he did not support support easing the way Bush and Clinton did.
